Bush Signs $700 BILLION Financial Bailout Bill

Can't help what you remember but the discussion I responded to was about Obama and if you're interested in facts and what the people who were there said, see the quote and reference below.

Political bigots do have short memories and worse yet are the fools who have no memory or facts but want to pretend they know something about a subject.

"Rauchway recounts how Christina Romer, the first chair of Obama’s Council of Economic Advisors, came up with a number ($1.8 trillion), “based on arithmetic and data,” that she thought would be necessary to jumpstart the economy again. Given the sense of emergency at the time and the Democratic control of both houses of Congress, Obama could have used his rather large amount of political capital to authorize and then fight for a larger stimulus package, one which focused intensely on job creation and retention. But the star economist on his team, Lawrence Summers, disagreed with Romer and argued that the economy could be stabilized using a much smaller stimulus. Obama chose to go with Summers’s plan; the results of that decision would reverberate throughout his presidency."

Obama bailed out banks and other financial institutions at the expense of taxpayers-From an article from Occupy Wall Street--

It will be awhile before the final analysis of Obama is in, but the first book written by people who actually do the analysis is out and says that one of the reasons why his presidency will be considered a failure is the bailout.  According to people who were actually there, he was presented a great plan but turned it down in favor of a lessor plan.

My own opinion is he should have bailed out home owners instead of financial institutions.  If he had given failing home owners loans they could afford they would have kept their homes and their money and the financial institutions would been bailed out at the same time because the money would have gone to them.  But instead all the little people lost their homes under Obama and it was caused by Clinton's policies and a lot of people still believe both of them were friends of the little guy.

Never underestimate the stupidity of people.

In reality, the Obama administration has been just as subservient to Wall Street bankers as its Republican predecessor. That reality is described in a factually detailed, firsthand account: Neil Barofsky’s Bailout: An Inside Account of How Washington Abandoned Main Street While Rescuing Wall Street (Free Press, 2012). Barofsky is the former Special Inspector General for the bank bailout program, initially called TARP (Troubled Asset Relief Program). His efforts to impose somewhat more stringent conditions on the banks receiving hundreds of billions in government money—greater transparency, limits on executive pay—were continually opposed and obstructed by Obama’s treasury secretary, Timothy Geithner, and his cohorts. With the fervor of the newly enlightened, Barofsky exclaims:

“I had no idea that the U.S. government had been captured by the banks and that those running the bailout program I’d be charged with overseeing would come from the very same institutions that both helped cause the crisis and became the beneficiaries of the generous terms of the bailout.”

As a liberal, Barofsky believes that the U.S. government can and should serve the interests of the American people even at the expense of Wall Street. His assertion that the government “had been captured by the banks” implies that this was a relatively recent development, a notion currently widespread among liberals and reinforced by many reformist “socialists” who have cheered on the populist Occupy movement.
