Bob Mueller ‘Has a Huge Conflict of Interest,’ Says Former Assistant FBI Director

The former assistant director of the FBI wonders who investigates the investigators in the wake of former Trump administration national security advisor Michael Flynn pleading guilty to lying to the FBI and agreeing to cooperate with special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe.

“Bob Mueller should have never been offered nor accepted the job as special counsel as he has a huge conflict of interest,” Jim Kallstrom tells Breitbart News. “He should have recused himself.”

Not only do observers describe Mueller and the man he recommended to replace him as FBI director, James Comey, as close or even best friends, but the special counsel pursues an investigation heavily involving the bureau he once led. How one maintains detachment in leading a team that includes numerous anti-Trump partisans in a probe involving one’s close friend and the former bureau for which Mueller served as director goes unexplained.

Other problems Kallstrom sees include the means by which investigators obtained information and what constituted probable cause to obtain it.

“The Obama administration apparently, had the advantage of using electronic surveillance, collecting information on the Trump campaign,” Kallstrom explains. “That collection, in my view, may be found to be unlawful.”

At the very least, one administration conducting surveillance on the opposition party looking to replace it strikes as unusual if not unprecedented. In 1972, for instance, President Richard Nixon’s political team relied on former agents of the FBI and CIA to gather intelligence on the Democratic Party.

If the surveillance and investigatory methods prove unlawful, Kallstrom notes that this puts Mueller in an awkward position of looking into his close friend and perhaps the bureau that both men once led.

“If they used the phony dossier as the predicate for the FISA order they obtained, that could be a huge problem,” Kallstrom tells Breitbart News. “If they knew the information was phony, that is a felony. If they did not know it was phony, they were incompetent.”

The “dossier,” which Americans belatedly discovered as an opposition research investigation funded by Hillary Clinton’s campaign and other partisan sources, served as a justification in the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) court to obtain a wiretap on Trump campaign advisor Carter Page. Christopher Steele, the former British intelligence officer who compiled the opposition research dubbed an intelligence dossier in the media, admits that he neither traveled to Russia nor spoke to many of the sources for the anti-Trump document that the Clinton campaign funded and the FBI used in its investigation.

“This whole matter with the dossier and the investigations that ensued, including FISA surveillance and the unmasking of hundreds of names, in my view, will prove to be violations of the rules set down by the Congress for unmasking, or worse, will be found to be violations of federal law,” Kallstrom concludes. “The Justice Department should find out if the FBI paid for this phony dossier and should inspect the affidavit that was given to the FISA court to determine the accuracy of their probable cause.”

Eexcept members of the Trump Cult, everyone sees this ploy for what it is, an attempt by the Trump Administration and their friends to smear Robert Mueller. That's Trump's MO.

Always remember, Trump Cult members cannot handle  criticism of their hero in the White House, so they easily fall for obvious con jobs like this one.

Ron Hosko, who served as assistant director of the FBI and now is president of the Law Enforcement Legal Defense Fund, said he holds Mueller in high regard. But he added that the media should examine Mueller’s decisions in probing allegations about Russia’s intervention during the 2016 election.

Hosko specifically noted that questioning whether the lawyers and FBI agents on Mueller’s team are unbiased and capable of conducting a fair investigation is also legitimate.

“Those are fair questions to ask, given the background of some of the attorneys that have staffed that group,” he said.

Nearly a dozen of the attorneys Mueller has hired were generous contributors to Democratic candidates and Democratic causes. One once worked for the Clinton Foundation.

More recently, authorities acknowledged that FBI agent Peter Strzok — who participated in both the investigation of 2016 Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s handling of classified information as secretary of state and the Russia probe — exchanged text messages with colleague Lisa Page bashing the president.

In one text during the campaign, Strzok expressed doubt that Trump would win the election but wrote that they couldn’t “take that risk,” likening it to an “insurance policy.” Mueller later dismissed him from the team but didn’t tell Congress until months later.

“Bob Mueller has the right to hire the team of his choosing,” Hosko said. “However, raising questions and looking at the composition of that team, I think, is entirely legitimate because at the end of the day, what you want is an unbiased investigation. The light is going to shine in. We are going to have an understanding.”

The text exchanges, Hosko said, were “embarrassing to the workforce over there.” He added that the “FBI knows, the rank and file know — and the leadership knows — that your personal biases can never infect your work.”

Hosko called for more investigation of Strzok, saying “we’re not gonna know until the FBI actually puts this guy forward to be interviewed by Congress.”

Wall Street Journal columnist Kimberly Strassel, who has written extensively about the Russia probe, told Ingraham that liberal sensitivity to criticism of Mueller indicates that he is vulnerable to such questions.

“The depth and the range of that complaint about him and the attacks on him are a signal of Democratic realization of how big a problem Bob Mueller has created for himself,” Strassel said. “Because let’s be clear: Bob Mueller has done this to himself. Nobody else. It’s not the conservative media.”

Strassel said she and other conservatives had high hopes when Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein appointed Mueller.

“We wanted to know. I still want to know,” she said. “Is there anything illegal or improper about Trump transition or campaign team ties to the Russians? But I think a lot of people expected that he was also going to look into what happened last year. What happened to the FBI?”

Strassel said people slowly are coming to the realization that Mueller’s team may be compromised.

Just so much political BS. In a hearing in this matter, Representative Ted Leiu,  named many Republicans who are working on the Russian/trump investigation who had given hundreds of thousands of dollars to Republicans.

People have opinions—stupid to think ANYONE Republican or Dem can’t do his or her job due to personal beliefs.  REALLY STUPID!

Lame argument to an even more lame attempt to distract from the fact that there are MANY links between Putin and the trash in the WH.

Gee, I miss having a real president!

It's not about the results of the election, it's not about politics. It's all about Trump supporters who don't care that their man in the White House is:

  • a pathological liar
  • insults good people every day of the week
  • defines any criticism of him as "fake news"
  • tramples the free press which is a core foundation of our democracy
  • insults great Americans such as Bob Mueller and John McCain

What kind of American can wholeheartedly support a disgusting man like Donald Trump? They are pawns of an evil man who cares only about himself.

We were basically offered two candidates with vastly differing agendas. We voted for the agenda we preferred and are still approving of it. All this other stuff including your cut&paste above are not factors.

Members of the Trump Cult live in an alternate reality where facts and the truth are irrelevant. If you've been listening to them for the past 10 months, they repeatedly told us the Mueller investigation is a waste of time. The two words they used like puppets were "witch hunt".

But after several indictments and a very realistic possibility the corruption in the Trump Administration will lead directly to their hero and idol in the White House, they are in panic mode. So what do they do next? That's right, they do what their leader does. Whenever anybody disagrees with him and/or threatens Trump, he goes into attack mode. That means a smear campaign is launched where facts and the truth mean nothing.

That's exactly what's going on here. Although reputable Republicans and the entire law enforcement community has 100% respect and admiration of the former director of the FBI, Robert Mueller, Trump's minions are going into attack mode against this great American. The smear campaign, led by Donald Trump, is full speed ahead.

This is very scary behavior and it reminds me of Germany when Hitler was amassing power.

@CriticalThinking—The “conflict of interest” is this.  Mueller’s ethical and professional investigation into trump and those equally as corrupt who slither around him, conflicts with the lies and the felonies that the felon in the WH has perpetrated upon the American people.  No more, no less.

The rest is no more than nonsensical static put out by the reality and morally impaired.

An attorney for special counsel Robert Mueller attended Hillary Clinton’s election night party in New York City, The Wall Street Journal reported Friday.

Andrew Weissmann’s attendance at the party is one of many signs pointing to a troubling bias from the attorney. Weissmann has been described by The New York Times as Mueller’s “lieutenant” and “pit bull.”

Conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch obtained an email Tuesday that reveled Weissmann praised former Acting Attorney General Sally Yates’ defiance of Trump.

“I am so proud. And in awe. Thank you so much. All my deepest respects,” Weissmann wrote to Yates on Jan. 30. The email followed Yates’ instruction to the DOJ not to defend an executive order banning immigration from seven nations, an act that led to her dismissal by President Trump.

Weissmann is one of several Democratic donors that have been hired by Mueller, a registered Republican. The special counsel’s “pit bull” donated a combined $6,600 to the presidential campaigns of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.

The special counsel’s probe has been criticized by Trump’s allies, but the White House maintains Trump has no intention to fire Mueller.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said in October that Mueller’s investigation would end “soon.”

However, it appears the wide-ranging probe will last into 2018.

“The president’s lawyers are sleepwalking their client into the abyss,” Roger Stone, a Trump confidant, told the Journal.

This is a huge problem for Mueller...  How could he make a mistake like this?  Did he think no one would notice?

To have such a partisan on the special counsel team puts the entire team under the microscope.  The American people expect such a counsel to be non-partisan and it should be.  This reeks!

The Daily Caller, founded by an assistant to crazy Dick Cheney and funded by an even crazier Foster Friess, who says women should put a Bayer aspirin between their knees for contraception, and read by people like lunatic Karl Rove, who says it is necessary reading.

Well known for publishing false and utterly unsubstantiated claims, this piece of garbage journalism went as far as publishing a "how to" video of a car plowing into protesters, advising that it was a way to fight protests........ I guess one of their readers took the advice because 6 months LATER someone did exactly what they advised in Charlottesville.

Strickly non partisan republicans..like you right? If you want non partisan, its time for sessions to go from the DOJ and appoint Bernie Sanders, an independant to run it and pick the team.

So it begins.

Here we go again. I heard this word for word on FOX News. We all see the new far right approach try and destroy the inquiry which very well could end the far right rep government lead by a President with mental problems by attacking the people trying to get the truth out. What is posted was untrue on FOX and is still untrue. Sadly when the order is given the followers respond which is how the Russians taught the far right Reb. leaders. Now to important news. Did you see the trump rally in North Fl last night. Trump never told the truth on anything, and came out for Moore in total. Trump has approved everything Moore has done. Now why did not Trump hold his rally in AL. Could it be he was afraid to stand next to Moore and say the things he did. We all know the answer to that. he was. The  crowd cheered Trump after every lie. What kind of people are they? Well go see the film Three Billboards and you will see. Really scary. One last thing why he was in N. FL. It seems the crowd he had there was made up of the same type of people he would have had in AL. They say birds of a feather flock together.

Here is a hint for today. Watch Panama.

@john258–Yup, I heard it too—it was so ludicrous that CNN showed it.  Such obvious propaganda. Laughable with regard to the stupidity of the message spewed.

So sad  that the base doesn’t seem to have the ability to figure it out.

Gee, I miss having a real president!
