Then perhaps you should go on a hunting site and sell others to give up the rifles they are comfortable with and take up your preference.  Denigrating other's choice seldom works.

There ARE more practical weapons for hunting game. Of course, if you want to hunt humans, the AR-15 is exactly the way to go.

What do you suggest for hunting, say deer?  A single shot .22 rifle?  Apparently you don't do much hunting, but I'm sure that those that does would appreciate your advice on rifle of choice.

I posted....You live in a very sheltered world if you have not heard of hunting and the fun sport of target shouting.

What kind of hunting requires 23 rounds per second and uses ammunition which tumbles and fragments? Maybe neighbors? Perhaps a concert in Las Vegas, a street fair in Ohio, or a Walmart in El Paso?

Say what? What has that got to do with what I posted? Which is..

Well, they ARE referred to as "weapons systems". It is a package deal. The gun and the ammunition plus any enhancements. Certainly, if the AR-15 design was changed such that the rate of fire was significantly slowed and it would only take .22 calibre ammunition, a case could be made for keeping it. However, the current ammunition is designed to tumble and break up in the body. The AR-15 is designed to fire bullets which travel much faster as well. Plus, the AR-15 and the AK-47 are both capable of extremely fast firing rates even as semi automatics. In short, they really don't have any capablity except harming humans.

Yes a semi-auto weapon with high (+8) camacity magazine CAN be used for hunting and target shooting, but there is no need for it to be able to fire 120 times each minute for many minutes. Keep the hunting and target shooting capability, lose the MILITARY FUNCTION of killing as many human beings as possible in the shortest amount of time by removing the gas tube and blocking the gas ports. Then insert a block in the magazine to prevent more than 8 cartridges from being inserted.
