Black Lives Matter protesters in Louisville have issued demands to businesses in the city's East Market District in order to correct the "lack of representation" of non-whites and "liberate" people of color.

In a letter addressed to "Business Owners and Stakeholders in NuLu business district" with a subject line of "Reparations and Representation," the Louisville BLM affiliate is demanding donations to organizations run by non-whites, as well as racial quotas for staff and ownership of business suppliers.

The list of demands includes:

  • 23% of staff are "black or indigenous persons of color" (BIPOC) in Front of House positions
  • 23% of inventory is from BIPOC retailers
  • Dress code policy does not discriminate against BIPOC patrons and employees
  • Mandated "diversity and inclusion training" for all employees
  • Displays of left-wing messaging to support "reparations"

The group is also publishing "grades" of the business, with three varieties of posters with the message "YOU CAN'T STOP THE REVOLUTION" and the grades A, C, and F as outlined by the "NuLu Social Justice Health and Wellness Code."

If businesses fail to abide by BLM's demands, the following "Repercussions of non-compliance" will be enforced:

  • Reduction in Racial Index Score/bias report to the Better Business Bureau.
  • Notification, via all social media platforms, of non-compliance.
  • Public boycott, coordinated through social media and mail announcements, of the NuLu establishment and any other business ventures under the same ownership.
  • Visible, media-covered demonstration/sit-in outside the establishment.
  • Placement of booths/tables outside the establishment where competing black proprietors will offer items comparable to those offered by the establishment.

This is out and out Blackmail.

18 U.S. Code § 873. Blackmail. Whoever, under a threat of informing, or as a consideration for not informing, against any violation of any law of the United States, demands or receives any money or other valuable thing, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both.

So is there a National Black Lives Matter chapter?  Is there a Local Black Lives Matter Chapter?  Is there a Louisville Chapter? Did any one of these entities order this done?

My point is ........ is there a chapter of Black Lives Matter to report these actions to?  If not, how can Black Lives Matter as a whole be blamed for the actions of an individual?

The situation is not fake according to news out of Louisville - print and local news cast.

Seems to be a big squabble about the Gentrification of this area - use to be public housing.

Now the BLM folks are demanding some reparations for losing [their] home.  As many other cities and communities have done - they see an area become in-demand and determine that the land on which the public housing is located is much too valuable to remain public housing.

After all, public housing requires a lot of upkeep, repairs and maintenance.  The city does not make enough money off of the units to keep up with the maintenance and repairs or the, many times, increase in lawbreakers and what the city has to pay for law enforcement officers concentration in the area and other social programs.

Then they look at the up and coming area where the public housing is located and the potential $$$$$ bounty that they could reap - it is not a racial discrimination decision that they have to make - it is purely a financial decision based on the facts of numbers.

Plus they have to relocate the residents to some other place - was it really "their" home to begin with?

Evidently there are many Cuban restaurants in this NULU area so the disagreement seems to be between immigrant Cuban Restaurateurs and the BLM folks that are making these demands.

Some of the Restaurateurs are going along with it to keep the peace, so to speak, while others are very much against it - verbalizing how their fight for the American way of success in a new country is being extorted by these other folks - who demand rather than work as they (some cubans) did to create success. Course on the other side - they are asking for jobs and inclusive diversity in the complex and the businesses that are located there.

The protesters list of demands aims to improve diversity in NuLu and asked business owners to hire more black staff and undergo diversity training.

"It's just unethical and that's not how you handle business. If you want help from someone, there's a way of going about it, being diplomatic about it. But you don't threaten anybody," Ahamara Brewster, leader of the Revolutionary Black Panther Party said.

. . . . "You're attacking a brown black establishment in the name of Black Lives Matter? Wait a minute, something is weird about that," Brewster said.
Martinez, also condemning socialism in his speech to ralliers Sunday, said he loves freedom and the United States. He said his business isn't racist.

There is a video at the link and I think it shows the letter - didn't look at it.

Now THIS is one great discussion going on here - hope it stays a discussion.

Maybe we can also discuss too -

So Do you think that these BLM folks make a good point or not?

Well, as a white person  if they tried it with me, I guess I would react in the same manner. but I guess that the poor and blacks are not expected to whine.

After all, public housing requires a lot of upkeep, repairs and maintenance.  The city does not make enough money off of the units to keep up with the maintenance and repairs or the, many times, increase in lawbreakers and what the city has to pay for law enforcement officers concentration in the area and other social programs.Well they could  raise taxes and do their job and provide what their citizens expect and need.

Then they look at the up and coming area where the public housing is located and the potential $$$$$ bounty that they could reap - it is not a racial discrimination decision that they have to make - it is purely a financial decision based on the facts of numbers. "THEY"  THOSE PEOPLE ? !!!!! My goodness they are really bad people aren't they? could  it be that they want a piece of the pie like everyone else?

Plus they have to relocate the residents to some other place - was it really "their" home to begin with?   They thought so. they were moved there as their homes , didn't they?

Evidently there are many Cuban restaurants in this NULU area so the disagreement seems to be between immigrant Cuban Restaurateurs and the BLM folks that are making these demands.  So now is the Cubansw fault? we only like Cubans,LOL

So now the Blakc in this country are trying to disregard the American Dream? for whom for you and me?of them.?t

If you read the local abc news affiliate release perhaps the disagreement between these folk would be much clearer and we could discuss their views on the matter.

@GailL1    Just did, and saw something that has always been criticized in the US what has the Cuban  flag doing in all of this ?  they like the uSA so much why are they flying the  Cuban flag. ? do you realize the amount of times the Mexicans have been criticized fdr doing any of this.?

Frankly, they are most definitely Trump people, I can see by what they are saying that they follow Trump. hOw do I know? because I have many Cuban friends that say the same thing and that clearly believe that Biden will bring socialism to the US.
So now they are being con in thinking that the Democrats will bring Communism to the US.

Whether they are right or wrong I don't know about them to really have an opinion.

The Cuban flag has been around since 1902 - It is a Cuban Restaurant - maybe he has some Cuban ancestry pride. Just like many other immigrant that come to this country -

From Wikipedia

The national flag of Cuba consists of five alternating stripes and a red equilateral triangle at the hoist, within which is a white five-pointed star. It was designed in 1849 and officially adopted May 20, 1902. It is one of the two flags of a currently socialist country that does not use any communist symbolism

There are Mexican Restaurants here as well as Korean ones that fly the flag of their ancestry.

Isn't it all relative to the spirit to which they fly the flag of another country?

Can't believe that was a point of interest for you with what is transpiring there - a disagreement as to the manner in which one group tries to make a point.

The whole matter is how the party making the request is presenting themselves.  Demanding isn't a way to secure jobs, IMO.  Two cultures converging  - to me, I see little political about it - I see a difference in how the two group believe and work for those beliefs.

@GailL1       I am concerned that now you seem to think that I do not know my own history. and are trying to instruct me on how my  flag came about,  I consider that quite arrogant on your part.
Regarding the flag, it had no business at that house. and has nothing to do with ancestry or pride. Please allow me with the knowledge of knowing cuban culture.
They were complaining about socialism in their posters and that tells me that they consider any of this  what I have stated. that they belong to BLM if they do. and that they are trying to install socialism and because they came from Cuba thay don't want to see communism. |
That is Trump talk if I have ever seen it so please, do't try to  instruct me in what i  happen to to know a lot more than you

The Cuban Flag is one of the two flags of a currently socialist country (the other being Laos) that does not use any communist symbolism.  After the United States seized Cuba from Spain during the Spanish-American War, the Stars and Stripes flew from January 1, 1899, until May 20, 1902, when the Cuban national flag was hoisted as a symbol of independence and sovereignty.

For the rest of your post - I am lost.

BLM DEMANDS jobs and diversity training.  I'd say both sides may need to learn a bit more about each other and how they see getting from "A" to "B" in some agreed upon manner.  That is what diversity is - Diversity is differences in racial and ethnic, socioeconomic, geographic, and academic/professional backgrounds - perhaps they both need a dose of it because none of us live in a vacuum.  We don't always get our way about things either - learned that early on as a toddle.

Have you ever seen Spike Lee's film "Do The Right Thing" - its a 1989 film but it put Spike Lee on the radar of good filmmakers.  It is all about diversity - got it all - blacks, Italians, restaurateurs, and the diversity message even covers age and generational differences.

Here is a (2) minute trailer - hope you will watch the whole movie.

Now I have no idea as to what you are speaking about. what does the Spanish American war has anything to do with those people in Louisville and the Cuban  flag  in their premises?   By the way, if you were taught that Teddy liberated Cuba from Spain. LOL  I guess you need to know that Cubans were fighting for their independence for over 100 years.  so please don't get any ideas. because In order tof Americans to leave in 1902 we had to give you guys Guantanamo and the Isle of PInes which we later recouperated.   We have heard that claim many times and the manner in which many wanted to anexate Cuba. well you got Puerto Rico  be content with that.  Whst do you think that Cuban forces were doing while Teddy was riding his horse.? sitting down and looking at him? plesase,!!!!!! Teddy simply fought with the Cubans to Libertate Cuba from Spain, Spain was a failing empire with just to colonies.Cuba and the phillipines.

Hear is another ...one of many....

Cuban restaurant owner in Louisville reveals how BLM sent him blackmail letter with diversity demands that he was told to meet or risk social media shaming, a public boycott and his storefront 'f***** with'
Dozens of businesses in Louisville, Kentucky, received letters from BLM protesters on July 24
The protesters wrote a list of demands for the businesses that would increase diversity
The list includes ensuring that at least 23% of staff are black and that 23% of the business's inventory comes from black owned retailers
The activists say that the area was unfairly gentrified after the demolition of a housing complex in the 2000s and that it's time to correct an imbalance
Fernando Martinez claims though one protester told him to agree to the demands or risk having his restaurant 'f****d with'
He says while he supports the movement, he won't be told how to run his business
