Trump doubles down on Syria pullout: ‘Stop the endless wars!’

President Trump used Twitter Sunday night to spell out his plans for a pull-out in Syria.

“Starting the long overdue pullout from Syria while hitting the little remaining ISIS territorial caliphate hard, and from many directions,” he began. “Will attack again from existing nearby base if it reforms.”

Trump also threatened to “devastate Turkey economically” if the country hit the Kurds living in Syria.

He proposed creating a 20-mile safe zone to protect the Kurds. “Likewise, do not want the Kurds to provoke Turkey,” he said in a second tweet.

Turkey dismissed Trump threat to economy over Syrian Kurds "You cannot get anywhere by threatening Turkey economically," Foreign Minister Nevlut Cavusoglu said.

They're leaving. They're not leaving. They're leaving.

BAGHDAD — The U.S.-led military coalition in Syria has begun the process of withdrawing troops from Syria, a U.S. military official said Friday, declining to comment on specific timetables or movements.
Col. Sean Ryan, spokesman for the coalition fighting the Islamic State group, said the U.S. started “the process of our deliberate withdrawal from Syria.”

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which monitors the conflict in Syria through a network of activists on the ground, said the withdrawal began Thursday night.

It said a convoy of about 10 armored vehicles, in addition to some trucks, pulled out from Syria’s northeastern town of Rmeilan into Iraq.

Trump’s abrupt decision in December to pull them out led to the resignation of U.S. Defense Minister James Mattis and the top U.S. envoy to the anti-IS coalition.

On Sunday, U.S. national security adviser John Bolton said American troops will not leave northeastern Syria until IS is defeated and American-allied Kurdish fighters are protected.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who is on a tour of the region, has also sought to reassure the Kurds that they will be safe after U.S. troops withdraw from the country.

Actions have consequences

In  other words Trump escalated the war and put our troops and our allies in harms way while alienating  the command structure of troops on the ground of  a war zone he and his children would never lower themselves to serve in.

No doubt this will make the refugee situation worse.

In Dec,  Donald had a conversation with Erdogan (Turkey) and made a gut decision that the US had beat ISIS and therefore  he  would withdraw all the US troops from Syria.    There was blowback by US military that resulted in Gen Mattis resigning from his position at the Pentagon.   Donald appointed a guy from Boeing with zero military experience.   Several other resignations followed, Gen Mattis Chief of Staff, envoys to the middle east, etc.

NSA head,, John Bolton, made a trip to the MiddleEast to smoove over the situation and made a statement that the US military would stay in Syria and work with the Kurds until Isis was really destroyed.      Donald whined.

Now Turkey is saying that it will attack the Kurds in Syria regardless of US comments.
