5 questions for you on your position on guns

Message 21 of 33

Yes Ronald, I'm very familiar with "Tyranny of the Majority". But I made the point that 85% of Americans are not opposed to the constitution. You are confusing that with the the effectiveness of universal background checks.

You sound like a smart guy, you don't need a definition of universal background checks. Let's get back to my question. What do universal background checks have to do with abandoning the constitution?

Please define "universal background checks". There have been several possibilities floated.

By the way, have you ever heard of the concept of "tyranny of the majority". I would guess that in the bad old days of segregation and discrimination that there  was a rather large percentage of the American population would NOT have approved of civil rights for minorities. So just because a so called majority is for or against something does not make it right, or wrong.

Ronald, there's a huge leap between wanting universal background checks (about 85% of Americans are in this category) and claiming that policy is unconsitutional. Please explain your position.

I'm rather surprised that there are so many who want to dismantle our constitution.

Re: Gun control ???

The problem is not guns, the problem is MILITARY-GRADE weapons in civilian hands. What makes them "MILITARY-GRADE" is their rate of fire AND the characteristics of the ammo. If it's auto or semi-automatic and can fire more than 8 times before reloading, then it's design purpose is to kill as many people as possible in the shortest amount of time, and THAT is what our military needs, but there is no place for it OUTSIDE the military.

As for the ammo, anything that can penetrate body armor should NEVER be allowed in the hands of civilians. It's only use ourside of war is to kill politicians and police and that does not end well for a civilization.

Gun control ???

From Forbes.com -

https://www.forbes.com/sites/paulhsieh/2018/03/20/any-study-of-gun-violence-should-include-how-guns-...

----------------

Another study estimates there are 1,029,615 DGUs [defensive gun use]  per year “for self-protection or for the protection of property at home, work, or elsewhere” excluding “military service, police work, or work as a security guard,” (within the range of the National Academies’ paper), yielding an estimate of 162,000 cases per year where someone “almost certainly would have been killed” if they “had not used a gun for protection.”

(In comparison, there were 11,208 homicide deaths by firearm in the US in 2012. There were a total of 33,636 deaths due to “injury by firearms,” of which the majority were suicides, 21,175.)

-------------------

Notice that most of the deaths attributed to guns are suicides. Would gun control affect this number? But even if it reduced it by 90% how would it affect the 162,000 cases where people would have been killed if they had not defended themselves against violent criminals?

Before you go down the emotional blind alley on either side of the gun control issue ask yourself two questions:

1. If your significant other, girl/boy friend, child is being beat to death with baseball bats by a crazed gang - do you want to wait for the police to intervene?

2. Are you really ready to use whatever force is required to stop something like that from happening, even to the point of causing death to another person?

Really, what are you personnaly willing to put up with? What are you personnaly willing to take responsibility for?

What must go is the NRAGOP

Their ability to keep filing lawsuits challenging individual state legislations may be more than they are able to defend.  At the very least, their sanity is being challenged.  Thanks always to our young who survived to tell their stories.

What must go is the NRAGOP, perhaps a few of whcih call themselves Democrats, but very few. Get rid of the NRAGOP and you can get rid of semi-automatic weapons andhigh (more than 8) round magazines/clips. Allow them to stay, you get more slaughtered children and they will promise to pray for you each time it happens AND THAT'S ALL THEY'LL DO.

Vote Out All Incumbents - Especially the Ones who Have Been if Office For Decades - They Are The Ones Responsible - Republican & Democrat.......................

This Issue Comes Down To One Very Clear & Easy To Understand Issue & Democrat Manchin From West Virginia is The Perfect Poster Boy

Manchin Votes With The GOP & With The NRA 99% of the time - His Colleagues in the Democratic Party Give Him Cover Saying - Well He Has To Or He Won't Get Re-elected

Multiply that by the more than a Dozen or so Other Democrats Who Use the Same Excuse & you should begin to understand the Issue - The Problem - Who's Responsible & What the Solution is

Manchin and Every Democrat Who Uses The Re-election excuse illustrates the Problem - as long as Manchin is in Office He Votes with the GOP and The NRA on Gun Control - so he;s effectively a Republican as are the 15 other Democrats who typically Vote with the GOP on Gun Control

So again the Issue is Simple - are you going to do what's right and Vote for Gun Control or are you going to do what's best for you and vote against it

This should not be a Partisan Issue - it should be a Right or Wrong Issue and everyone in Congress should do the Right Thing when 30,000 Americans are being Killed by Guns Year after Year After

Regardless if whether or not they get re-elected

Worrying about re-election is why AR-15's are on our Streets

Worrying about re-election is why 30,000 Americans die every year from a Bullet

Worrying about re-election is why Columbine - Sandy Hook - Las Vegas - Orlando - Etc. Keep Happening

Our Elected Officials are putting their Own Political Careers Ahead of the Lives of 30,000 Americans

If someone said to you - you have to get a new Job or 30,000 Americans are going to die every year - including 100's of School Chidren - what would you do?

Politicians and More Importantly Voters Say - Screw the Dead Americans & Screw the Dead Children - Winning is more Important...................

It's Sick
