I call BS.

Did you notice the earnings of many of those "pay check to paycheck" people. I'd say lack of personal responsibility is more appropriate than "BS".

As to your repeated 75% of college expenses paid by the feds - your site cannot be accessed.

Another Republican Zombie Lie!

Numbers a/o 30 Sept when a President's budget execution ends are:

Reagan Begin Debt $987.7B, ending $2,857.4B. INCREASE 190.4%

jrbush  Begin Debt $5,674.2B, ending $11,909.8B INCREASE 109.9%

Obama Begin Debt $11,909.8B, ending $20,244.9B INCREASE 69.9%

The GOPerLords rely on their base not knowing how to comput a percent increase or when fiscal years begin and end. that's why their numbers only work inside the Republibubble.

Here is information as to the collections by the Treasury. As you will see there have been great increases (even with tax cuts). So, it would appear that the problem is on the spending side.

So, any ideas as to how to reduce the spending? Or do you prefer just typing Republibubble and Zombie Lies.

GOPers claim 78% of Americans are "living paycheck to paycheck" because of THEIR INDIVIDUAL GREED - they need "instant gratification", and if they were more "conservative", all would be roses.

I call BS.

People are living paycheck to paycheck because their inflation adjusted income has been stagnant for the last 30 years, while the cost of "necessities" has  skyrocketed.

Take education. When I was going to school k-12, there was NO additional fees for textbooks or extraciricular activities and schools supplies and lunches were avalilble free or at highly subsidized prices. This was possible because of the reasonable tax structure which supported REVENUE SHARING.

Same story at College - tuition was $130/semester, used textbooks could be had for under $20 and room and board was $105/month. This was possible because Revenue Sharing made it possible because 75% of a State college's operating budget was covered with Government grants.(https://www.clevelandfed.org/.../ff-v5n010402-college-by-the-rising-numbers.aspx)  Pell Grants and low interest loans were avaliable to 90% of students so very few graduated with a dime of debt.

Reagan killed Revenue Sharing to "pay for" his Taxscam, so today parents shell out hundreds of dollars to RENT their kids textbooks, more hundreds of bucks for every sport, club or activity they participate in, and the lunches are provided by some corporate food court. A College Degree is now the price of a good home, and parents are taking out second mortgages and getting second jobs to try and cover the cost to give their kids the best shot at a better life. The average student debt is now over $30,000, and wages have not budged for a decade.

Then let's consider some other "expenses", like transportation. When I was a kid, you could get anywhere in town quickly for a 15cent busride, and many adults used the bus to get to and from work. Now cities cannot afford such services, either because the Corporate Oligarchs bought and closed the municipal transportation systems, or the loss of Revenue Sharing made the continued operation of the system unaffordable for the city. Cars once came able to withstand a 5mph front and 10mph rear crash WITH NO DAMAGE. Now bumpers are plastic because the Corporate Oligarchs fought higher milage standards by reducing weight instead of adding gears and either of those "cost free" bumps will set you back hundreds if not thousands of dollars.

So it's NOT the individual's inability to control their desires, it's REPUBLICANS redistributing all the increases in income FROM the Middle Class TO the very top of the 1% for the past 34 years, and instead of educating our kids for the jobs of the future, we pander to the Uberrich who promise to dribble their stolen wealth down on us IF we just give then ANOTHER tax cut.

The "75% of college operating cost covered by Government" comes from a 31 Jan, 2014 study by the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland, titled College by the (Rising) Numbers.

For those seeing "pay check to pay check" as a result of the free market, the following will show it is a societal problem. Bottom line, the problem appears to be "instant gratification".
