Trump-Cohen Tape is Just More Evidence President is ‘Seedy Man’ and ‘Low Life From Queens,’ Says Conservative Columnist

Conservative columnist George Will said Tuesday that a tape of Donald Trump discussing with his then-attorney Michael Cohen paying off a former Playboy model is just further evidence that the president is a “seedy man.”

Will, an outspoken critic of the president, said there was little noteworthy about the recording made two months before the 2016 election and given to CNN by Cohen’s lawyer Lanny Davis Tuesday.

“I’m hearing redundant evidence that Mr. Trump is a seedy man whose incontinent sexual appetites get him into trouble with seedy women,” he told MSNBC.

“Now this is not news at this point in his presidency. I'm not hearing anything remotely like the tape in which Richard Nixon said, ‘Well, let’s get the CIA to lean on the FBI to cover up a criminal conspiracy.”

The legal representatives of Cohen and Trump have disputed some of the key words and their context on the audio recording. While Davis has said that it shows Trump suggesting paying Karen McDougal in cash in order to silence her claims of an affair, Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani claims it exonerates the president by showing him stating that they shouldn’t pay in cash but instead use a check.

The payment was ultimately never made but the recording has sparked further conversation about whether campaign finance laws were broken. Cohen, who did later make a $130,000 payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels to silence her claims of an affair, had his home, office and hotel room raided by the FBI in April.

I don't think that tape is "the bomb she'll". With that many tapes, the bomb shells will come out soon enough. I think Trump is in legal trouble. He knows he must stop those tapes from reaching a court room.

To make matters worse, I heard there's a rumor that Ivanka might be questioned by Mueller. I wonder if Ivanka, Jared or Trump Jr. ever used Cohen for legal advice. (?)

TRUMP: [In background] Good. Let me know what’s happening, okay? Oh, oh. Maybe because of this it would be better if you didn’t go, you know? Maybe because of this. For that one, you know -- I think what you should do is get rid of this. Because it’s so false what they’re saying, it’s such **bleep**

[Into phone] What’s happening?

COHEN: Great poll, by the way.

TRUMP: Yeah?

COHEN: Seen it. Great poll.

TRUMP: Making progress.

COHEN: Big time.

TRUMP: And, your guy is a good guy. He’s a good —

COHEN: Who, Pastor Scott?

TRUMP: Can’t believe this. No, Pastor Scott. What’s, what’s happening —

COHEN: No —

TRUMP: Can we use him anymore?

COHEN: Oh, yeah, a hundred — no, you’re talking about Mark Burns. He’s, we’ve told him to [UNINTELLIGIBLE].

TRUMP: I don’t need that — Mark Burns, are we using him?

COHEN: No, no.

FEMALE: Richard [UNINTELLIGIBLE]. I’m sorry, Richard [UNINTELLIGIBLE] just called. He — just when you have a chance, he had an idea for you.

TRUMP: Okay, great.

COHEN: Um, so, we got served from the New York Times. I told you this — we were …

TRUMP: To what?

COHEN: … To unseal the divorce papers with Ivana. Um, we’re fighting it. Um, [Trump attorney Marc] Kasowitz is going to —

TRUMP: They should never be able to get that done.

COHEN: Never. Never. Kasowitz doesn’t think they’ll ever be able to. They don’t have a —

TRUMP: Get me a Coke, please!

COHEN: They don’t have a legitimate purpose, so —

TRUMP: And you have a woman that doesn’t want 'em unsealed.

COHEN: Correct.

TRUMP: Who you’ve been handling.

COHEN: Yes. And —

TRUMP: And it’s been going on for a while.

COHEN: About two, three weeks now.

TRUMP: All you’ve got to do is delay for —

COHEN: Even after that, it’s not going to ever be opened. There’s no, there’s no purpose for it. Um, told you about Charleston.

Um, I need to open up a company for the transfer of all of that info regarding our friend, David, you know, so that — I’m going to do that right away. I’ve actually come up and I’ve spoken —

TRUMP: Give it to me and [UNINTELLIGIBLE].

COHEN: And, I’ve spoken to Allen Weisselberg about how to set the whole thing up with ...

TRUMP: So, what do we got to pay for this? One-fifty?

COHEN: … funding. Yes. Um, and it’s all the stuff.

TRUMP: Yeah, I was thinking about that.

COHEN: All the stuff. Because — here, you never know where that company — you never know what he’s —

TRUMP: Maybe he gets hit by a truck.

COHEN: Correct. So, I’m all over that. And, I spoke to Allen about it, when it comes time for the financing, which will be —

TRUMP: Wait a sec, what financing?

COHEN: Well, I’ll have to pay him something.

TRUMP: [UNINTELLIGIBLE] pay with cash ...

COHEN: No, no, no, no, no. I got it.

TRUMP: ... check.

[Tape cuts off abruptly. Separate recording begins.]

MALE: Hey Don, how are you?

2018 Recording Artist of the Year

Lordy, there are tapes in the government’s investigation of former Trump attorney Michael Cohen — more than 100 of them.

Federal authorities have seized more than 100 recordings made by Cohen, including the

bombshell tape CNN published on Tuesday that appeared to feature the president discussing a payoff to former Playboy model Karen McDougal, the Washington Post reports.

While Trump makes a cameo in fragments of these recordings, the tape that’s been released is the only one that includes a substantive conversation between the two men, sources tell the Post’s Philip Rucker, Carol Leonnig, Tom Hamburger, and Ashley Parker. A number of the recordings reportedly capture discussions that Cohen had with journalists who were asking about Trump, while others may have included talk that sometimes touched on Trump and his business practices.

Cohen’s attorney and longtime Clinton ally Lanny Davis has said that his client’s penchant for secretly recording discussions was something he occasionally did in lieu of taking notes. “Michael

Cohen had the habit of using his phone to record conversations instead of taking notes,” Davis told the Post. “He never intended to make use of the recordings and certainly didn’t intend to be deceptive.”

Meanwhile, Trump has called Cohen’s recording of their conversations “inconceivable” and questioned the attorney’s ability to even make them.

“Inconceivable that a lawyer would tape a client - totally unheard of & perhaps illegal,” he tweeted over the weekend.

As Vox’s Emily Stewart points out, it is legal for communications to be taped in New York, where the recording was made, as long as one party knows it’s happening.

In the tape that was published earlier this week,

Trump and Cohen can be heard discussing a payment to McDougal, who received $150,000 in exchange for selling her story about the Trump affair to the National Enquirer.

The publication, which is owned by American Media Inc., a company chaired by Trump ally David Pecker, had purchased the story specifically to keep it quiet. As Vox’s Andrew Prokop writes, the recording confirms that Trump knew about Cohen’s involvement in the McDougal payoff.
