Re: YOUR FAVORITE MOVIES and WHY?
Hi All!
Remember me? I created AARP's Movies for Grownups 18 years ago, and I'm delighted to say the franchise is still going strong.
But you won't find my reviews there any more -- I now have my own movies website for folks 50-plus: Movies For The Rest of Us!
Drop by and check out my reviews, interviews, and videos, plus my weekly Weekend Movie Preview and capsule reviews of hundreds of films.
Thanks!

re: YOUR FAVORITE MOVIES and WHY?
Favorite movies are so hard to choose because there are so many, so I'll try to pick my favorites in a variety of categories along with the reasons why.
Comedy
A Night at the Opera, Animal House and Stripes - because each made me laugh so hard my sides still hurt the next day.
Drama
10 Angry Men, The Breakfast Club and Moscow on the Hudson - the first two because of the rich ensemble performances and the third because of the storyline, and the subtext of what it means to be an American.
Musicals
Although I enjoy movies like The Sound of Music and Fiddler on the Roof my favorites are stories about musicians, so I pick The Rose, Eddie & The Cruisers and Almost Famous.
Action / Adventure
Conspiracy Theory and Vertical Limit - the first because of the rich characterization Mel Gibson brings to the role and the other for the slam-bang edge-of-your-seat thrills.
Epics
The Ten Commandments and 300 - epic storytelling at its best.
Disaster
A Night to Remember and Fail-Safe - Star-studded casts giving amazing performances.
Suspense / Thriller
Strangers on a Train and Cellular - Nobody brings it home like Hitchcock and this one has all of his classic elements from the cameo to the everyday hero to the trademark camera angles, like the girl's strangulation being seen via the reflection in her glasses. The everyday hero aspect is explored in the second film as well and is combined with witty writing and unique solutions to extraordinary situations.
There are other categories that I will explore in future posts but that's for another day.

Hi TraderVic,
I'm still at my Daughters, but wanted to
acknowledge your excellent post! If I put the movies
that I enjoyed into catagories, it would take much time and
thinking, and you've done an excellent job!
In terms of Drama, I absolutely loved 12 ANGRY MEN, and while I
loved MOSCOW ON THE HUDSON, but there are movies that I would have
to add. When I get home and I'm on my own Computer, I'll try
to come up with a list too, and then we can compare them, or
perhaps, you will remember others to add to your list.
I just didn't want you to think that your post was forgotten,
because it wasn't! I've been on vacation, and now hogging my
daughters computer, but it's now time for breakfast and I have to
go. Talk to you tomorrow!

re: YOUR FAVORITE MOVIES and WHY?
Are you referring to "12 Angry Men" with Henry Fonda?
(sigh) Could someone please put me out of my misery - I don't want to live without a brain...
Hey, I just thought maybe two of them weren't angry anymore.

I
typically
enjoy
films
that
tug
on
the
heartstrings.
Rich

is
one
such
movie
and
one
of
my
many
favorites. It
stars
the
wonderful
British
actor, Albert

particularly
like
this

it

it
