I like alot of directors,my favorite is M.Knight Shalaman
I think I spelled it wrong, He did movies with great twists like
The Sixth Sense, Signs, I’m sad to say I missed his last one. I
also like Speilbergs, especially Schindler’s List, ET and
Poltergeist. I enjoyed Clint Eastwood movies especially Million Dollar
Baby, Ron Howard is very good too. Apollo 13 was my favorite by him. I
also liked the movies Mel Gibson did Braveheart and The Passion of the
Christ both very good. The quirky I liked David Lynch- Blue Velvet and
Lost Highway. And Stanley Kubrick 2001,was one of my favorites and The
Shining of course then there was Oliver Stone!  JFK,  my
favorite just to name a few.  LOL!  MaryAnn

Hi Maryann,

I too liked M.
Night Shyamalan at first.  I loved "The Sixth Sense",
"Unbreakable" and "Signs" but then I thought he
went downhill.  "Lady in the Water" was terrible and
"The Happening" just wasn't happening as far as I was
concerned.  I hope he gets his act together because his earlier
movies were great.  I also wasn't that crazy about "The
Village" but it was better than the other two I didn't like.

The others you
named are all very good especially Clint Eastwood, Steven Spielberg,
and Ron Howard.  I'm not that big of a David Lynch fan though I
loved the tv series "Twin Peaks" and the movie "Twin
Peaks: Fire Walk With Me".  I also find Stanley Kubrick to
be very strange.  Oliver Stone is also very good and I loved
JFK as well.

Hi Janese,

    The next
time I go to the video store, I'll keep in mind "O, BROTHER
WHERE ART THOU?" with George Clooney, because of your
excellent recommendation!   Thank you too, for the
list of JOHN HUSTON Movies!    It's now 4:39 AM,
and I had better get to sleep now!   Talk to you
tomorrow evening if not before!

     Oh,
by the way, "MISERY" written by STEPHEN KING is
going to be on THE LIFETIME MOVIE NETWORK, this evening.
As you know this movie started the Great Acting
of KATHY BATES & JAMES CAAN!    I
then wondered who directed this very good movie, and
the DIRECTOR was ROB REINER.   Shelby

Shelby,

I can't believe you were up until 4:39 a.m.
posting.  I can't sleep during the daytime hours so it wouldn't
work for me though if I was alone I could see me getting on the
computer if I couldn't sleep.

Thank you for mentioning the movie "Misery"
which I also have on DVD in my collection and have seen many
times.  I also have the book.  I own all the Stephen King
books and many of the movies that were made from his books.
He's my favorite author.  Thank you for mentioning Rob
Reiner.  Also, in mentioning the Lifetime Channel I wanted to
let you know about a great movie coming on this coming Saturday on
Lifetime starring Shirley Maclaine called "Coco
Chanel".  This one I will be recording to watch later.

Shelby,

"Life Is
Beautiful" is such a wonderful film that when it first came out
on DVD I couldn't wait to buy it.  It cost almost $30.00 but I
didn't care.  I loved the movie and I wanted it.  Later it
was often on sale for around $6.00.  That's okay though because
it was still worth it to me.  This movie is one of the greatest
movies I've ever seen.  Like you I watched it in the Italian
language with the English subtitles.  Great choice.

Who is your
favorite film director of yesterday or today and what makes his
or her films worthy of best director?  Let us know
your favorites.  Perhaps you enjoy the works of Frank
Capra or Federico Fellini or a more recent director such as
Clint Eastwood or Jodie Foster.  It is said that the
director is the most important person as he or she is
responsible for creating the "movie magic".
What movies stand out for you by your favorite?

Two
talented brothers I would like to mention are Joel and
Ethan Coen otherwise known as "The Coen
Brothers".  They have directed some great movies and
though I didn't care for this particular movie they received Academy
Awards for direction, best adapted screenplay and best
picture for "No Country For Old Men" last year.  One
of my favorite movies by them is "The Man Who Wasn't
There" starring Billy Bob Thornton and "O, Brother Where
Art Thou?" with George Clooney.
