haoleboy96789 community username QUERY

Can a moderator find out if the community username, haoleboy96789, is used by someone?  I suspect that a previous profile of mine is keeping me from using that username now.  I would like it, but the system won't let me save it in the edit section since it is already being used.  I think it's me.  The customer service person on chat suggested that I'd be able to get a better answer from a community moderator.
