(Very) Early Renewal
I just received cards expiring Apr 2030--to replace my existing cards that expire Apr 2026. Why did my account renew over a year-and-a-half early? Thanks.

Is AARP scamming members with renewal notices 5 months before they are due? If I wasn't in my right mind I would be paying them 2 or 3 times a year. I thought they were supposed to be taking care of the Senior Citizens. This is why I quit AARP years ago.

5 months?? Try THREE YEARS before they are due. I keep receiving renewal notices. I received a notice asking me to renew for 2025. I already paid for FIVE YEARS in 2023! My membership doesn't expire till end of January 2028!! This is such a SCAM obviously calculated to fool members into thinking they're about to expire! Most people don't keep as good records as I do, and don't bother to check. The membership department should be ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES FOR THIS DECEPTIVE PRACTICE.

I think this is an intentional practice targeting the older community. I received a special deal to renew for 5 years BUT I already did that !! I pulled my check info to make sure. Mine doesnโt expire until 2028. I think they hope we forget so we will pay more into this organization! They would save so much in postage and labor if they were running an efficient organization!

Hello @StephanieB193259, I can understand how frustrating receiving those renewal mailings can be. Let me check into your account to the bottom of this. When you get a moment, please send me a PM and include your full name and mailing address to locate your account. Here is an article that will show you how to activate Private messages: https://aarp.info/47hWcl7. I look forward to hearing from you soon. - Daniela R.
AARP charged me $16 for "automatic renewal" on 11-7-2024. I did not recall signing up for automatic renewal but, nevertheless, let the charge go through. Now, I receive DAILY emails informing me that my membership has lapsed with a link to "Renew Now! We want you back" and an option to choose a "free gift."
I am certain that many people, despite having a current membership, simply click the link and renew--extending their membership who know how many years into the future--and adding income to AARP's bottom line because of this misrepresentation. THIS PLOY SEEMS SIMILAR TO MANY OF THE FRAUDS/SCAMS AARP WARNS ITS OWN MEMBERS ABOUT.
When I called AARP today (after being misdirected and run around the voice-message-mullberry-bush) and made this complaint to the customer service representative, HE HUNG UP ON ME--I had been civil, but angry, and had certainly not used any profanity.
Just now, I received another AARP email with a banner "REJOIN TODAY!" If this were not an attempt to mislead/scam seniors, it would say, "EXTEND YOUR MEMBERSHIP TODAY."
I AM REPORTING THIS PRACTICE TO MY WASHINGTON STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL--IT HAS TO STOP.

We hope you reconsider, @ScottN927316. We send our renewal notices to accounts that expire within 6 months and up to 3 months after expiration.
Our hope is that our members are able to renew before experiencing any interruption in their membership, including receipt of AARP The Magazine or their AARP Bulletin. Plus, some members have their life insurance, car insurance and more linked to their AARP membership, and it could be detrimental for it to lapse. - Diana G.
