Why Walgreens? They only care about profit not my health

In 2014 CVS decided to stop selling cigarettes as a health and wellness company.

Walgreens claiming to be the same type of company, still sells cigarettes today.

CVS had their sales go up, and some studies show their customers cut back and, in some cases, quit smoking.

AARP has partnered with a company that does not care about my health, just their profit.  Bad choice

Walgreens still sells ciggaretts, tried to move offshore to avoid paying US taxes, and has taken positions unfavorable to wormens rights.  I canceled my account and will not shop there anymore.

I sympathize and AARP is surely aware of the paradox. But try not let it bother you too much. CVS sells beer and unhealthy snacks and frozen foods. AARP will partner based on the royalty deal they can negotiate making a calculation (or rationalization) that those cigarette sales are subsidizing a greater good.

health and wellness care is just a reason to shut down less profitable business

The health of your customers is a great reason to stop selling cigarettes.  Tobacco has been very profitable for the manufacturers and is a 6-10% profit margin for retailers.
