Shringrix and Prepopik

The new Shringrix vaccination for shingles is about $160 per shot and two are required, about six months apart.  They told me I should never need any further shingles vaccinations.  My Humana Part D doesn't cover it -- too new I suppose.   Prepopik is a new colonoscopy cleansing medication that is a much lower volume, about $150 and Humana doesn't cover that either.  But my Gastroenterology doctor recommended it so I'm going with that.  You do have to drink lots of fluids before and after though.    Since the results of colon cancer and shingles could be costly to medicare/medigap/medicare advantage plans, we can hope these newer drugs will get moved into the "preventitive" category and be covered.

One "nice" thing about colonoscopies is that they don't recommend them after 75 --- so one of the few advantages of getting older ( they figure you'll die of something else first after that )
