Here is a FAQ from a benefits manage that might help you or confuse you more -

Don't believe so -

HSAs are individual accounts and the IRS says this in Publication 969 (2016)

IRS Publ 969 (2016)

Qualifying for an HSA

To be an eligible individual and qualify for an HSA, you must meet the following requirements.

  • You are covered under a high deductible health plan (HDHP), described later, on the first day of the month.
  • You have no other health coverage except what is permitted under Other health coverage , covered later.
  • You aren’t enrolled in Medicare.
  • You can’t be claimed as a dependent on someone else's 2016 tax return.

Is this the reason why you were putting your disabled spouse who already has Medicare Part A and Part B on your employer plan?

Medicare and HSA contribution by spouse

I am confused about Medicare and HSA. My spouse is on disability with Medicare part A & B.  I am working and have a high deductible insurance plan with an HSA.  I plan to have my spouse on my plan for insurance plan starting in 2018. I understand he cannot contribute to an HSA. However, am I able to contribute to an HSA for both of us?
