I am just over 65 years of age and am changing jobs. My new employer will not cover me under their health insurance for 60 days. Am I in danger of being caught paying a penalty for not having continuous coverage if I don't enroll in Medicare immediately? My past two employers covered me from day one and I am floored by this. COBRA does not count as continuous coverage.

You do know the size of the employer also determines whether you can delay Medicare Part A and Part B without having to pay a penalty if you enroll later. You have too many unanswered questions for people on a Medicare blog to give you acceptable answers to โyourโ situation.

Why would you assume new coverage starts the first day of employment?
Are you enrolled in Medicare Part A only or no Medicare coverage at all?
Where did you get the idea that COBRA is not creditable coverage? Are you referencing Medicare or another group health plan?
Why would you want to enroll in Medicare for "60 days"?
Who is advising you? They aren't offering reliable or useful information.
