Canadian spouse and Medicare

I feel like a mouse on a wheel.  After months of talking to SSA, we finally got my husband signed up for spousal benefits. However, someone in that office stopped the agent from applying for Medicare stating the 5 year rule. I begged him to continue under the married for one year rule, but he could not. Now I don’t know where to turn.  The Medicare online staff is not exactly up on this subject and told me to go back to SSA.

Yes, you need to be talking to SSA on this matter - that is the agency that approves application to Medicare.

The staff at Medicare (CMS) deal more with the running of the program and the benefits
