MY DAUGHTER, A WORK IN PROGRESS

My daughter, Erica, has always loved to paint but only on her own terms. When she was in elementary school, my wife and I enrolled her in an art studio.

After two sessions, Erica said she wouldn’t go anymore because her teacher wanted her to paint according to certain standards. Erica rebelled: she would use her talent as she, and no one else, saw fit.

In high school, she had a commission to paint a reproduction of a Matisse still life. It sure looked authentic to me.

Although Erica painted very little while she home schooled her eight children, for the last couple of years, she has prolifically painted in a makeshift studio next to her kitchen, a typical unstructured example of my daughter’s individuality.

Recently, she has created a website where she has pictured a vast variety of her paintings—from realistic portraits to surrealistic swirls, from secular to sacred themes.

If you would like to see some of her work, this is her website: www.wallspeakdesigns.com
