Lazy Fun - Critique Commercials/Print advertising (no company names though)

I have fun when I'm just bored and critique commercials.  Some just have really BAD acting or odd stereotyping and some just have a weird message.

The latest one that drives me nuts is the one for the personal medical alert system.  I also laugh when I notice that it's always a woman cleaning the toilet and on her knees while cleaning it with a long handled brush.  At least they're good for a laugh!

Do you enjoy ads/commercials that reference old characters (comic strips, movie characters)?

@SpringIsHereVA Remember the old mens shaver ads. They were always a holiday classic from the Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer movie.  Santa riding the shaver down a snowy hill.

Nope @GAKKIEZ , I guess that is one of my Senior Moments.

As a child we only had ONE TV station on ONE black & white TV that was operating ONLY a few hours each day. I seem to think it was off on Sundays (the station).

And the TV was for my parents ONLY.

ALL kids was OUTSIDE until dark running around, bicycling.

We also spent alot of time at the beach in Discovery Bay (Jamaica, West Indies).

Then when I came to the USA (child of an American working overseas) at age 16, was too BUSY hanging out with friends.

So not sure when this ad was???

@SpringIsHereVA It's an ad from my childhood (1959-1961).  We only had B/W tv until 1968 and only 3 tv stations.  (the only tvs we ever had were 2nd hand ones until 1969)

It seems there are a lot of products advertised for incontinence (pads, briefs, catheters(!)) and they're always focused on the stereotype elderly or super athletic elderly.   I thought incontinence wasn't specifically age related.  (I guess the next thing we'll see is incontinence products targeted at 'the pregnant' or 'long distance driver'?)

Anyone else offended by advertisements (print/video) for incontinence products?  Do they seem to stereotype seniors?

@GAKKIEZ , as a female age 66,  I remember when FEMININE PRODUCTS was something "private" - now, they are advertised with no shame. Gosh, do young kids NEED to see all the demonstrations of COLORED LIQUID being poured on one of them? It is bad enough parents have to answer the facts of life questions as they pop up. Now there are pre-k kids asking WHAT IS THAT?  ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„

Don't you just love the ads/commercials that talk about how healthy a product is?  They always talk in generalities but no specifics!   It could be presented as 'Healthy' , 'Natural' , 'Low or No Fat' but may be "un-Healthy" in another sense.

@GAKKIEZ What about the ones about MEDICATION with a VERY LONG list of "side effects"  ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

@SpringIsHereVA Those are hilarious!  I've seen print ads that the 'side effects' or drug interactions is longer than the actual advertisement.

Have you noticed the ones that actually say "Do not take if allergic to the medication."?  Duh! ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

@SpringIsHereVA  I'm not a fan of the current movies.  I rarely even watch a movie made after 1960.  So, I just ignore advertising or promotion on tv.

I enjoy old tv shows (love to watch the credits or I search for early appearance of later stars). It's amazing how many of the really old vaudeville stars had very lengthy careers.

@GAKKIEZ , it is so sad that Toy Companies feel a need to flood the media with "enticing" antics.

Lol, then next year AFTER the New Year there are parents TRYING to pay BILLS.

The same with Car Manufacturers.

And yes, some folks BUY INTO the Christmas Madness = buy now, figure out how to pay NEXT YEAR.

St.pid in my opinion.

But I can't get MAD, they (Toy & Car Manufacturers) have to EAT...

@SpringIsHereVA   There is a lot of toy advertising over the holiday period.  Not all the toys are aimed at kids.  I see the same thing with video gaming systems, new cars, diamond jewelry.  A few years ago it was the purchase of a flat screen tv.  Now it's get a bigger flat screen.

I'm not sure if that was a similar focus when I grew up but my parents were of a generation that knew the hardships of the Depression and WWII.

  NEW CRITIQUE -

Do you see more holiday advertising for turkey or ham or ... something else?

      Which do you prefer?

For me, it's time for comfort food!  Beans and cornbread or maybe a pan of lasagna!

I NEED to lose weight @GAKKIEZ and FOOD anything "triggers" my NEED to eat stuff I am not suppose to = pre-diabetes per this year's 2024 Lab Work. Hope things will be BACK TO NORMAL next time in 2025.  ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Walking & Low Carb Meditetream Diet. My Medicare Doctor had suggested this.

I am West Indian so NONE of what you listed interest me. Lol, give me some Curry Goat.

@SpringIsHereVA I know that weight issue very well.  Happy you're on top of it!  so, you'd like to see Curry Goat on the Thanksgiving menu?

Beans and cornbread remind me of happier (though poorer times) family times. Together and thankful for a hot meal. My dad was the same way and always had to have butter beans on the Christmas table (his father was the son of a Civil War veteran).

Lasagna - became a family tradition when I lived in Germany (and a long way away from extended family).

@GAKKIEZ , I didnot grow up around Thanksgiving, so never got into it. My dad was born in New York USA, but worked for an American company overseas where I was born.

@SpringIsHereVA That's so interesting!  I'm sure you had a special day/days that a item or a complete menu brings memories.

It's a part of your heritage to remember.  Families shared food before people could write or verbally share family lore.

@GAKKIEZ , what about the INSURANCE ads?

[1]  NEGATIVE. The one with Flo got boring.

[2] POSITIVE. Now I am partial to the A man as I have A for my car. Lol, he is a HOT MESS!!!  ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜‚  Wish I could meet him. And they seem to CHANGE what he does OFTEN.

[3] To be honest, I cannot recall the others.

@SpringIsHereVA Now you make me think I need to pay more attention to those ads!  I can't say that I've tuned in to them in the past.  Maybe it's all the hoopla over saturation of the Medicare Advantage program and individual Medicare Advantage ads.  (I tune all of those out since they are not a good fit for me.  As part of my retirement benefits, I have to stay within the plans offered by them or I lose all entitlement to insurance coverage through them forever.)

@GAKKIEZ , have FUN with your topic!!! I only mentioned Insurance as the A man lives on my Prime Android App and GRATEFUL they change what "funny" stunt he is doing./lol  ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜‚

GRATEFUL Flo from P is NOT on it. Got tired of her a.s REALLY QUICK when P was "flooding" TV with her.  ๐Ÿคฎ

With NO TV as I had mentioned in a "previous" post = NO MORE Flo!!!  ๐Ÿ™ƒ๐Ÿ™ƒ๐Ÿ™ƒ

I will TRY to think of more ads.

Take care my friend.

Holiday ads are aplenty this year!!! They're everywhere with promises of great savings and how good they make you feel spending what funds you may/may not  have.

A few ads to remind us to support a charity of choice.

@GAKKIEZ , these days in my humble opinion - way too many SCAMS with charities.

One has to be CAREFUL!!!
