Do you feel Senior needs are being met in YOUR AREA for housing? ๐ค
In my area, IF a Senior needs HELP = Assisted Care, YES - too many in my opinion in MY AREA in Virginia. I live in an area OWNED by a Hospital who owns ALL training & employment.
For the REST of us Seniors still LIVING ON OUR OWN and not needing assistance, not enough. So the population of Homeless Seniors is growing here. ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ
Thanks for stopping by to comment and read comments.

What does Senior Housing mean to YOU? โโ๐คโโ
To me it means housing for folks age 55+. Now some people may include places like Assisted Care Facilities. I don't, but NOT saying there are NOT. Just my humble opinion.
Thanks for stopping by to comment and read comments.

There is the MULTI-GENERATIONAL setup like on the Waltons. I guess IF you come from a LARGE FAMILY where each GENERATION took care of the AGING, this would appeal to you.
Any comments? โ๐คโ
I have ALWAYS luved my privacy and peace, this setup would STRESS me out in my OLD AGE.

What are YOUR thoughts on AGING IN PLACE? โ๐คโ
My grandmother who died at age 104 died in the home her and my grandfather moved into when they were married. He had pre-deceased her in his 80's. Mamamae REFUSED to move in with any of her 4 kids or sisters.
I want this for myself. So NOT into any GROUP setup for folks to get on my nerves.
Also, for YOUNGSTERS BUILDING HOMES - may be a good idea to build to GROW OLD IN. Things like WIDE DOORWAYS would be a good idea in my opinion.

PER GOOGLE.
Senior housing can be safe and comfortable in a variety of ways, including independent living facilities, retirement communities, and modifications to a home:
[1] Independent living facilities.
These facilities offer a range of housing options, from apartments to single-family homes, and provide community-based services and security.
[2] Retirement communities.
Many retirement communities offer independent living services. Some retirement communities, like The Glebe near Roanoke, Virginia, offer a warm and hospitable culture, amenities, and services.
[3] Home modifications.
Many homes can be made safe and comfortable for retirees with modifications like moving a bedroom to the main floor and installing grab bars in the bathroom. Organizations like occupational or vocational therapists can offer home assessments and recommendations.
[4] The village model.
This model allows people to stay in their own homes longer by forming a support network with like-minded neighbors. The group creates a nonprofit community and pays annual dues in exchange for help with services like transportation, in-home care, and yard work.
*** Some companies with many communities that have Best Senior Living recognitions include:
(a) Americare Senior Living
(b) Atria Senior Living / Holiday by Atria
(c) Benchmark Senior Living
(d) Brandywine Living
(e) Brightview Senior Living
(f) Brookdale Senior Living

What do YOU want in YOUR Senior Housing? โ๐คโ
I am NOT ready as yet, but know "eventually" I MAY need to move to a NO STEPS home setting.
My Virginia Studio Apartment has about 8 steps between my Front Door and parking lot. I am GRATEFUL they put up a HANDICAP SIGN right in front of my door. I bought the sign and I put my apartment number on it.

@Winter2024 I was just looking over the many comments and it's very clear that 'Senior Housing' has many definitions and expectations. No one can really assume to know what should be required as a designated 'Senior Housing'.
I guess as a 70+, I have a different expectation than someone older/younger, or different cultural/economic history.

@Winter2024 It sure does! I grew up in a time when a full bath was only a once a week ritual and the rest of the week you bathed at a sink or at the old tyme washbasin with no running water.

@Winter2024 Multi-generational housing wouldn't matter much for those that have always lived in that way. It would seem normal to them.
I was raised with my grandmother always living with my family. She passed away in our family home and my brother got her bedroom. (My dad had built her room with an attached simple private bathroom. No shower or bathtub. Grandma had been born in 1888 so that was an not a normal part of a bathroom.)

@Winter2024 My daughter (in Texas) has already suggested I think of moving to be with her as her kids are all almost ready to move out. I've considered it but even she has 'rules' that I don't know if I could live by. (I'm a night person, sleep until noon, smoker.)

[11/30/24] @GAKKIEZ , I too like to do my thing when I want to.
Hmmm, so any PLANS? Stay where you are and AGE IN PLACE maybe?
Lol, I am STILL hoping mine will move back to Virginia so I donot have to MOVE BACK to Florida.
To be honest, NOT sure what to do but NEED to figure something out.

@Winter2024 I've thought about it. I do miss my kids (but they were active duty Army and everywhere) but...
I own my own house (mortgage paid off!) and I've made many modifications since I took care of my mother before she passed. I live a few houses away from my younger married sister and near an older sister. I don't have the health issues my sisters have. (I did live away from them for 30+ years before I retired.)
I've even thought of building a compatible house to accommodate my sisters and me with a common area but "rules" get in the way. (I'm the only smoker!) I don't get along with the kids of one of my sisters (I have a lien against a property on one of them from a lawsuit I brought on a private loan I made to her daughter.)

[11/30/24] @GAKKIEZ , maybe smoke AWAY from the COMMON AREAS.
Oh well, I have NEVER smoked and donot like it.
But you seem to be in a GOOD PLACE and I am sure things will fall in place.
Good luck with the Family Drama. Another reason I DONOT want to move back to Florida.
My daughter's father's and my family populate Florida. Like NO ONE ever leaves - born there, die there.

@Winter2024 One of MY rules when I'm paying the mortgage is that common area IS smoking area.
I do understand the family drama! Every family has some! (it even is with those family that are non immediate family but an ex.) My family is all over KY. Fun if you're into genealogy!

@Winter2024 I seem to attract family drama!
I even remember many years ago when my brother and sisters called me to tattle on our mother when she installed an answering machine. (Mom felt that she was still too independent to be monitored by them. They didn't need to know where she was all the time.) That was my mom!

[11/30/24] @GAKKIEZ , you attract what you allow my friend.
In 2015, I made it VERY CLEAR - the ONLY family I wanted to hear about was my "rock" - my only child.
Other than HER, I donot care who died, got married, relocated and so on.
Moving to Virginia was the BEST thing I did for me. ๐๐๐
I luv my caller id and blocking system. ๐

@Winter2024 Good for you!!! You set the boundaries for your happiness and sanity. So many people don't and others still allow the drama. You show your strength in maintaining those boundaries. Keep it up! Do what is best for YOU!

@Winter2024 Smile! That's not a memory of mine. We only had 2 bedrooms for a very long time. I remember sharing a bed with my sisters for many years. Sometimes I would even crawl into bed with grandma.

@Winter2024 Where I live in KY, it's not unusual to see trailers/trailer parks listed as senior living.

@Winter2024 Not too many people worry about trailers until tornado/hurricane season or the bitter cold when pipes freeze. That's a lot of maintenance!

[11/30/24] @GAKKIEZ , I guess all home setups except rentals would involve maintenance and possible pipe freezes for the Seniors.
Hopefully the landlord will maintain.
BUT you could NOT pay me to LIVE in one in FLORIDA!!! ๐ฑ๐ฑ๐ฑ
So MANY Seniors died due to the HURRICANES that seem to be INCREASING in numbers & damage. ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ
But IF that is all they can afford.
Another I DONOT get, why would you want a TINY HOME near the ocean???
Anyway, I let folks live their life their way.

@Winter2024 Everyone 'hopes' for maintenance on a rental. It's not always quick or done by a 'qualified' repairman. I did many repairs over the years on rental properties and one even issued a demand to vacate when they sold the property. It was easier to just buy a house. (I bought my first when I had been divorced 11 months. It was cheaper than rent on apartment since I had 2 kids and was required by the city living codes to have 3 bedroom apartment.)
