We just moved from metro Las Vegas to horse country in central Florida. This move took us from the desert to a humid subtropical climate, quite a change. We are in an HOA community in an unincorporated town between small cities. When we go out the front gate, we are in horse country. We are still able to find shopping and medical nearby for all our needs, and we found that groceries can be delivered by Kroger. We’ve been in our new home for 4 months and are both starting to get used to where things are and gradually learning to relax and enjoy ourselves like the locals around us. In our case, Florida has been welcoming retirees, snowbirds and vacationers for at least 50 years, so most people welcome newcomers and are happy to share their advice and wisdom of the area. What we like is the climate, the people, the businesses we’ve dealt with; all have been very accommodating. We have found every type of business that we need, most are within 15 miles. The green countryside and the drives to anywhere from here are beautiful. We enjoy that. The air is much cleaner here than it was in Vegas, with deep blue skies dotted with white puffy clouds. We have the same pharmacy chains here that we are used to, the same home centers, membership stores and convenience stores. Our new HOA is more accommodating than the one we left behind in Nevada, is better organized and has many more activities to choose from. We find ourselves asking each other why we didn’t think to make this move 5 years ago.
