GARDENING QUESTION FOR GARDENING CREW ๐Ÿƒ

A few years ago, I bought vegetable seeds from the University of Hawaii's seed program:

https://www.ctahr.hawaii.edu/seed/

I got some interesting varieties but sadly didn't have very good luck only because I am the world's worst gardener โ€” I didn't know I had to prune the tomato plants. I ended up with very tall (over 12'!) healthy plants that didn't yield many tomatoes.

But I thought it was interesting that the university was offering, to the public, these varieties they developed. Their $1.50 packets of seeds had more than enough for the backyard gardener.

@AvocadoDog  Good for you for giving the seeds a try, from Hawaii no less! Sorry they didnโ€™t exactly work out as you had hoped.

@Anonymous   I get mine from all over....anywhere from a garden center at Lowe's to even harvesting seeds from my own plants.  Then I put those from my own plants in the refrigerator over winter, and get them out next Spring and plant them.

I usually get mine from the local garden store. You can also get them from seed catalogs, home stores, Walmart, Target or Amazon. Some grocery stores even have them.

Mail order or online from companies such as Burpee or Twilley.  I get about 7 catalogs in the mail every year, some from companies I never ordered from.  Occasionally, I buy seeds on Ebay, especially from a seller in Russia.

You can see in these photos what the farmer has been up to in the field by my house today. I love the look of round bales in a field on a summer day.

@Anonymous  Strong winds often bring snow across that same field in the winter. As you know, there are pros and cons wherever you live!

Tip: Add a security blanket to your garden.

Whether you use burlap sacks, straw, leaf litter, wood chips or a few inches of finished compost, mulching your garden helps retain moisture, suppress weeds and mitigate temperature swings. Organic types of mulch have the added benefit of releasing nutrients back into the soil as they slowly decompose.  (Fornari)  ๐ŸŒฑ

@Anonymous    I have not used a rain barrel for my garden since all of my downspouts are ground level.  (Sorry, Angela!)

When  I look at something I see "Planter"...that said,...

Anything in a container...plenty of drainage...IMHO...that is the biggest issue with any container gardening/farming....

@AaronA108617   I do many times too, Aaron....especially during the Springtime and I am getting things together for my gardening.  It's really amazing how many cool things you can turn into planters and make your garden/yard look that much more interesting.

I also like funky little things to place in among my flowers too!
