Am glad you brought up this subject Soosie..

Decades past - I met my bride while managing a gym.   I had just transferred to this particular location and been promoted to manager.  She was already a member and came in on "Ladies Day".  Ha - I see you all laughing!  Yes - back then - the men worked out one day - and the girls the next.  There was no co-ed working out.  I fell in love the moment I saw her. Two days later - on our first date - I told her we would be getting married.  We did - and are.  Enuf of this.

Back when a few of our kids were still teens, we joined a Family Plan at a new gym close to our house.  We remained members til the kids were all gone.  Then, for a long time - we did not go to a gym.  But, we did become big hikers,, and walkers.

About a year ago, our daughter joined a gym (she is a runner anyway) and suggested we do the same.  We rejoined the same one where we had been members long ago.  Wow!!  What a change;  all the great machines!  I was like a hog in swill!  We love it!!  Other than all the wonderful machines - the greatest change I noticed was the large number of old people like us!!  It usta be mostly all youngsters.  We have become stronger, faster and even healthier!

As a bonus - it turns out that my insurance reimburses 2/3 of the membership cost.  Its all good!!

That is really true about going to the gym being a commitment. It really takes an effort and diligence and I usually seem to fade out after a few months. I think it is because I like walking outside and not being in a gym. I wish I could be more consistent about going to the gym.

I workout at a gym 5 days a week and love it.  I know that it has kept my immunity system working strong as I do not get sick and everyone tells me that I look like I am 50 and I just turned 69.  I recommend that everyone consider joining a gym because it takes discipline and when you just workout at home it never seems to get accomplished due to the Honey Do lists.  If you don't take time to stay healthy you will have to take time to get well when you end up sick.

I did join a gym and paid way too much and didn't go. I really enjoy being outside so I am sticking with that. I also have weights at home which I am trying to incorporate, I need to be more diligent. But I also have a great stretching cd: classical stretching that works every muscle and I feel so great. I try to do that every day.

I'm glad the weather is perfect for running again. So much nicer to hit the Santa Fe NM hills then to grind out some miles on an eliptical at the gym. I still do the gym every 3rd day for weights. Silver Sneakers is great. Have two gyms to chose from. A close one for the eliptical, threadmill or bike and a larger one for an extensive choice of weight machines.

I do not go to a gym. I have a treadmill at home. I walk at least 5 miles a day and I walk 7 days a week. I will walk on the treadmill and walk outside to complete my steps. I should join a gym to use the wieghts. I know it is very important to incorporated wieghts in my workout routine.

I go to the gym at least 4 times a week, work out on the treadmill and workout equipment. I helps me build and sustain muscle which is very important as you get older. My advice to someone looking for a gym is do it, find a gym that has decent equipment, I will tell you this I pay $10 a month, had a $1 initiation fee. At $120 per year it's a great investment.

@HealthAdviser Hey, that's a patented word! Smiley Happy JK. It's uber colloquial: DH and I added the 'b' for fun. Now we use it like a boss. Welcome to the family! Smiley Happy Huzzbah!

I've noticed a couple of times that you've used the word "Huzzbah". I can't find it in the dictionary; did you mean "Huzzah"? I've heard that used many times in the series "Sharpe" and the movie "The Patriot" .. late 18th/early 19th century time periods.
