In addition to Web MD's suggestions ...

We make it a point to eat a small meal before going to any holiday function that includes food. This way we are less tempted to eat things we know we'll regret later.

We also carry water with us, and drink at least 8 ounces just before arriving. This helps us feel full, and that helps with will power.

And we leave early. This helps by keeping to our normal schedule, and it takes us away from the those super tempting sweets. Smiley Happy

From Web MD

Enjoy the holiday feast without the guilt -- or the weight gain.

Thanksgiving only comes around once a year, so why not go ahead and splurge? Because gaining weight during the holiday season is a national pastime. Year after year, most of us pack on at least a pound (some gain more) during the holidays -- and keep the extra weight permanently.

But Thanksgiving does not have to sabotage your weight, experts say. With a little know-how, you can satisfy your desire for traditional favorites and still enjoy a guilt-free Thanksgiving feast. After all, being stuffed is a good idea only if you are a turkey!

Here are the Web MD suggestions in bulleted form (click through to the article to read more on any of these ideas):

  • empty plate.jpgGet Active
  • Eat Breakfast
  • Lighten Up (we're talking food prep choices here)
  • Police Your Portions
  • Slowly Savor
  • Go Easy On Alcohol
  • Be Realistic (this is a call to reset your weight lose goals to weight maintenance over the holidays)
  • Focus on Family & Friends (not the food)

Do you have any tips for others on how to avoid holiday weight gain?
