Thinking of You during this Labor Day Weekend
I am happy for all of those who have family and friends who can spend some time enjoying this holiday weekend. That is a blessing. However, there are others who will be spending the time alone. As they say alone does not mean lonely, but at the same time there is a void, and you may wonder why. This is an unfortunate part of grieving. You may remember better days or regret that there were possibilities for better days that did not materialize due to health or other reasons. Do not despair, you will find your way to peace if you have not already. Enjoy each day and do what you like to do – walking, gardening, cooking, reading etc. Reaching out to others has helped me as well, reminding me that I am not alone and can help make a small difference to another person. I am also thinking of trying to set up a serene place in my house where I can relax, read a book, listen to music, etc. You probably wonder why. Unfortunately, up to now I viewed my house as a hospice facility with all sorts of medical paraphernalia and bad memories. Quite frankly I have avoided many of these areas. They brought back so many sad memories. On the other hand, at the end, my husband was finally home, and I believe he realized he was safe and loved even if he could not say the words. I think this is a new beginning for me. A small step, but like many others, it may lead me to a brighter future. Wanted to share and wish everyone a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend. Your friend, Sue

This is a bitter-sweet time for me as it is when my husband and I became a married couple 64 years ago. In his memory my older daughter and I will have the shrubs trimmed and one will be removed due to dying . A painted wagon with Autumn flowers in the back area of it will be set in place of that shrub..a tribute to Husband/Dad .The lawn will also be mowed..My husband also came home as this was his last request and it was done come Hell or High Water...The short time we had after this was hard on all of us but gave us precious time with him..A bitter-sweet time with lasting memories...

Thank you for sharing your tribute to your husband/dad. That is great and fitting given the circumstances. I was also married a long time and we would have celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary in a few weeks. As you said, bittersweet. As I think of those last days, I am now more at peace. Like you I went through Hell and High Water to get him home. Wow. And during Covid. Glad you have your daughter. Means a lot.
