I have packed all the valuable collectables and went on line to research the current value of them.  I then printed the information, value, etc. and packed it in the box with the item.  I also packed all the information I have collected on my family/ancestors and within each box placed pictures of them to go along with the information.  This is my attempt to inform my son and grandsons of our family's history.

Cadee @Cadee2719 You are incredible! What great steps you have taken to provide history for your family and inform them of values of collectibles. I'm in awe!

I had already been in a decluttering status when my husband passed away this past September. We live in the far northeast, and winter is quickly approaching. My husband had so many good winter clothes, etc. We are familiar with a local veterans help organization and aware of their connections with the homeless population locally and throughout the outlying communities. I knew it was the right thing to do by donating as much of his clothing as possible - I also know in my heart that he would approve! I kept a few of his favorite items - but the rest are now keeping others warm!

Good for you nd @nd5891 ! Going through your loved one's clothing is a difficult task. You not only got it done, but you did it in a very thoughtful way. I'm sure the organization appreciated the donations and they are distributing them to people in need. It does the heart good to help others in whatever way we can!โค๏ธ

I am getting there!!! ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ’ƒ

Bought another PLASTIC CONTAINER at Walmart TODAY. Will get another one NEXT week. Figure by doing ONE AT A TIME versus buying SEVERAL at once = it will get FILLED! ๐Ÿ‘

Lol, still got A LOT to do and should have been DONE BY NOW, but you know how that goes. ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜‚

But KNOW it needs to be done to lighten my daughter's LOAD when I pass. Being an ONLY child is no fun when dealing with the death of a parent.

Anyone else DECLUTTERING? ๐Ÿค”

Yes Nicole @SpringIsHereSoHappy , decluttering is an ongoing process here. I have made two Goodwill runs this month already and several for the year. I did however just tell someone that if they happen to outlive me, to please assure the ones I left behind that I did try to reduce the amount of stuff!๐Ÿ™‚

My best advice about going thru your loved ones

clothes, etc. is to do it when youโ€™re ready. We had

a vacation home and I was closing it for the Winter

just two months after he died. I figured it made

sense to go thru his clothes and get them out

of the house. Little did I know just how long it

would take and how unprepared I was for the emotion of the task. Some stuff was trash, some I kept and some I donated. I cried thru the entire process then had to lug it all home to donate.

The day they came to get it, I just sobbed. I

did not repeat this mistake with his clothes

at home.

I was blessed to have my daughter and granddaughter come over to go through all of Jan's clothing, bag it up and have it ready for pick up.

That was one project that I absolutely dreaded. There was one very minor bright spot in the process. Jan used to enjoy spending a little time at one of the casino's in our area and would keep any winnings in a jacket pocket for the next casino visit. I heard a" Mom come here  comment" . She had found  $650 cash that had been stuffed in a jacket pocket.

Too many memories.

I, too am decluttering.  My first go round was seven bags to the Vietnam Veterans of clothes never worn over 10 years.  Then I got rid of the seven extra bed pillows, sheets, towels, blankets (donated to a vet's office for the animals).  Did another check on the drawers and found more clothes I only dream of fitting into again and got rid of them as well.  Being that I am planning on moving, I come to the realization that I do not want to pack up all this stuff I never use, pay to ship it to another state to simply never use it again.  Crazy isn't it?  Prior to my move I plan to get rid of furniture that I do not need as I plan to downsize to a smaller home.  I gave a lot of my husband's clothes to my grandson and my son and to the Vietnam Veterans.  I gave hundreds of books to the church book sale and the classics to my grandson to add to his collection.  It gives me a good feeling to know that I can help others with my donations and it is alleviating the task of moving all this stuff to a new place to simply sit in the closet.

Wow they make it so easy you think theyโ€™d be

nationwide. I would Google and see if there is

any place near you that provides the same

service

I am Decluttering as well in an attempt to make my

eventual downsizing easier also. I have found that

no one wants my old stuff that I thought was valuable. Even my kids, for the most part, only want

sentimental stuff, especially of their Father. I have

been donating for years to gogreendrop.com. They will pick everything up at your house and you choose

who gets your donations. I chose Purple Heart. It

is also tax deductible. Look it up and see if they

pick up where you live

Good for you @BeatleloverKT ! I have to get through the remodel mess first although I have been getting rid of some things when I've had to pack and unpack during this project. I'm going to check out your address in your post.

Thanks.

Oh no I'm so sorry to hear about your leak! It is so frustrating to have a wrench thrown into your decluttering plan. It could be a sign just to say it is time to get this done and the less you have the less you have to worry about.๐Ÿค”

i would like to find a place for false teeth because of the precious metals that are used in them or a place for old hearing aides...I am starting on my stuff and giving it to those who have a need or may want it..You can't take it with you...My husband use to say if you go before me ..I'm backing up a dump truck and disposing of all...It didn't work out that way so I donated it to good causes that would benefit others either by bringing in cash for the cause or pleasure to those who got or purchased it through thrift stores like the Salvation Army, Big Brother/Big Sister and the Vietnam Vets...Hopefully I will be able to go through my things so our adult children won't be bombarded with disposing...Though there are some real estate places that will take all lock/stock and barrel thus helping the cause of disposal...Just getting rid of a sofa/full mattress set and student desk came to over $500.00 to a disposal company a little high I thought...

Jonibee sounds like a lot to do. However I feel the same. I think its also a way of moving forward. But if it gets you run down it's not worth it. Take care!

Some groups that recycle hearing aids are: The Lions Club, Hearing Aid Project, & The Starkey Hearing Foundation. I'm finding that denture recycling isn't really done in the US but it is in Japan. Dental schools may accept them in the US.

I've also donated books that are relevant and in good shape to Friends of the Library and taken old electranics and chemicals to a drop off station.

I've made multiple trips to drop off things at a donation center, donated old eyeglasses, and so far have filled 20 paper grocery bags with shredded paper! I still feel like there is much more to do!!

Lions Club have a box, usually at a vision store. I'm pretty sure a Walmart, too.

The glasses took a little searching. Our library used to have a dropbox but it isn't there any longer. I found a select Walmart that had a drop off. It wasn't my neighborhood store, but it wasn't that far and I was glad to find a home for all of our old glasses.

Just so you and others will know - The Lions Club Has a Recycle Eyeglass program, they also partner with other stores and places to collect them.

LIONS Club Recycle Eyeglasses

Old hearing aids can be donated to various audiologist โ€˜s offices - they can refurbish them with a new warrantee and then sell them for a small amount that covers their time and materials.

Those that work with Deaf Schools really do a services with these old is new again devices - yea, cause even deaf kids are kids with the same types of bumbling.
