MAYO CLINIC - COMPLICATED GRIEF - Symptoms and Causes
From the link
Different people follow different paths through the grieving experience. The order and timing of these phases may vary from person to person:
These differences are normal. But if you're unable to move through these stages more than a year after the death of a loved one, you may have complicated grief.
I am just gonna put this informative article out there for people to read so that they might realize when something they are experiencing is out of the norm and they can seek appropriate help, the sooner the better, cause yes, it will get worse.
Thank you for the information resource @GailL1 . This kinda reminds me of when I was a kid and first learned to ride a two wheel bicycle. A year or two later The Big Wheel was introduced and I remember thinking, 'That would've been so much better than a tricycle,'. Kinda wish I'd've had access to this 20 years ago.
By way of a couple of comments:
1) As far as the nomenclature goes, "Disorder" is a misnomer. Grief is a natural process and "Disorder" implies there is something wrong with an individual based on the intensity of their personal experience. "Complicated" and "Complex" should probably be dropped in favor of the simpler "Intense", "Profound", "Serious" or "Persistent".
2) One 'Environmental Factor' that springs immediately to mind is Probate Law. An entirely manufactured 'Reality' that is completely out of control. It is more of a service to those who administer it than those who are affected by it.
Addendum:
Given the current disproportionate emphasis on Anxiety, Depression (Mood Disorders) and Substance Abuse (OCD Disorders) and tendency to ignore, or glorify the symptoms of Borderline and Antisocial Personality Disorders the article seems one-sided.
It begs the question: Where is the recognition of Uncomplicated Grief - Non Bereavement Disorder? A very common symptom of the more dangerous of the Mental Illnesses is the unfeeling attitude toward death often expressed as insincerity or distraction.
