ARE FUNERALS BECOMING A THING OF THE PAST?????

I didn't notice until recently when my wife and I both lost more than one of our ex-coworkers that none of these people's families had a formal funeral.

I started to think about recent deaths in my circle of acquaintances and determined that there were very few funerals, no automobile processions, no religious services, and no graveside services open to other than close family.

Some have had a meeting to remember the deceased well down the road after the person died. But not a funeral.

I know that both expense and, for a time, COVID, played a role in this change in society but is it a permanent change????

Despite the extremely small experiencial sample cited, this does seem to have been a trend since before COVID-19.

David Sloane wrote a book about it back in 2018:

I think it's because there's a lack of door-to-door salesmen in the 21st century trying to sell plots, coffins, and funeral arrangements. Or, it is a more intimate affair than it was before when there was food, booze, and eulogies. I, personally, think funerals are awesome, although a bit morbid to talk about.

cute, Kelly 😉

Over a decade ago I chose donation, cremation and other arrangements; I don't want my daughters to mourn any more than they already have following events in their lives including Columbine and 1-Oct...
