Log in to AARP when I’m already logged in & also have a link sent to me

I had been logged in for over an hour earning points with vids & quizzes...when I chose to watch a Staying Sharp vid ....I sometimes have to log back in to AARP with Staying Sharp vids... even when I’m already logged in....but this time I also had to have a link sent to me before I could continue...what’s up with this?

I saw this: By logging in with the link you will no longer be able to use your existing password.

& also I saw this on the bottom of the link email: You are receiving this email because of your recent transaction with AARP.

So what’s this “recent transaction”mean & why all this unnecessary extra security validation?
