How Is Your Area Handling the Corona Virus?

Hello Rewards Warriors,

I was just interested in seeing how people in different parts of the U.S. are dealing with the Novel Corona Virus.

I live the southern part of the U.S. in 2nd largest city in the state and it's a panick going on.  Daycares closing indefinitely, schools & colleges closed for extended time during spring break, grocery stores being emptied and restaurants with very little business, stores & hospitals running out of face masks and LysolSmiley Surprised  Parents with kids fearing losing their jobs to stay at home with kids, etc.

How is your city and state dealing with the virus?

Thanks for letting me know.

Hello Rewards Warriors,

I was curious about how the mutated viruses are affecting everyone's community?  Are people still social distancing and wearing some type of mask?

Nobody's walking around with their shoot record glued to their forehand.  Is your area still protecting themselves?

Lot of people in my city are still wearing mask, but nobody is social distancing😢.

How is it where you live?

Hello Rewards Warriors

The country recently reached an all time high for daily COVID-19 cases😢

Has your state's opening created more cases of the Corona Virus?

My state (TN) has a lot more cases and they are doing a terrible job with testing.  How's your state doing?

Hey Marylin.... missed ya

Here in NC the numbers are higher but not at rates of some other states.... we never opened completely .... which I'm grateful for.... the Governor has caught alot of flack/protests from him extending Phase 2 for 3 more weeks plus made wearing a mask mandatory when in public since numbers still not where they want/need be.... several bars in Raleigh have opened under protest & many folks going to them not wearing masks or social distancing which I think is dangerous...I realize its hard on businesses but don't agree with their actions(just my thoughts)

I had my 1st hair appointment June 24th had been 4 months since last one... usually go every 6 weeks...I was nervous about it but its a small shop I've gone to over 20 years... normally only about 5 or 7 inside counting the 3 ladies own place

I'm still hesitant and not ready to go back to normal yet... so staying home

Did have oldest granddaughter stay with me Wednesday night, her mom vacuums my home monthly but been since early March so DIL & 2 grands came & here during day then Stevie asked stay night ....1st folks to be in my home in months.... they are still staying home & grandkids not going in stores or such... so felt we'd be ok

As for public things I'm sticking with take out and only going shop when must. I'll wear a mask but I have say with my deafness I'm really lost in mask world can no longer read lips nor understand what folks say....

It's a process & even with many saying its hoax not real ....I chose to be safe rather than sorry

Take care everyone

I live in Montgomery County, MD, adjacent to Washington, DC.  The DC capital region is a hotspot, although nothing like NYC.  While Maryland opened up in a "Phase I" approach a week or so ago, my county, which has the second highest number of cases in the state, did not follow suit.  We will open up in our own modified Phase I on Monday.   The differentiated "reopening" protocols has made a lot of people really mad.

Masks are required in stores/doctors offices/etc. both by patron and employee.  Most non-essential businesses are still closed.

We have finally ramped up sufficient testing and contact tracing.  And our hospitals are not overwhelmed.

Curiously, our county's unemployment rate, despite the harsher lock-downs and the higher number of cases, is the lowest in the state.  (It's not good, but it is the lowest).

Hello @ManicProgressive

Same things happening here with masks and Phase openings.  Unemployment is high here and state is overwhelmed.

I personally feel that everything is moving much to fast with reopenings, because this will cause a second wave of the virus with even higher death toll this fall.

On the news this afternoon Arkansas opened bars with a requirement to wear mask and stay 6 ft apart.  How do you do that if you're inebriated😮

Bar was at maximum requirement limit, didn't know beer, cognac,  vodka, scotch and whiskey killed COVID-19😂😂

Hello Rewards Warriors,

The state of Mississippi which next to me has announced they are reopening everything🤔

Their Governor states that they would take the risk instead of lose the revenue, they have a lot of casinos.  I think it's sad that money is more valuable than a life now😪

What's reopening in your state?

With President Trump demanding all churches reopen 5/24/20.

Will you be attending or do you think it's to soon?  I'm thinking why aren't federal employees back in their buildings.

Not me.  In the United Methodist Church our conference bishop makes the call.  She is following the state health recommendations.   Drive in services are now allowed but it will be in June before modified services may start.   We don't know yet.

Just finished reading an article in The Wall Street Journal about super spreading events.   One of those this and other articles talk about is that choir practice in Washington State that had lethal results.  When we do get back to church, singing may be a no no.

I think she's making the right decision, and so is my church.  I haven't heard any news broadcast about church services being back to normal or even open.

I lost faith following 1-Oct-2017 when my daughters were fired upon by a "Christian" person. I have no qualms with religious people; I just do not believe any longer.

During this health crisis, I do believe anyone who uses religion as a "shield" is maniacal and demented.

I thank you and any and all leaders who stand true to your faith and defy any calls for any stupidity that may contribute to the spread of this, and any, disease.

No family gatherings. Only one person per household allowed in stores. Everything is closed except takeout. Anyone attending church will be forced into 14 day quarantine. They are recording license plate numbers.

Hello @Raynyky

What state are you in?  Here in TN, no more than 10 can gather, lots of non essential businesses still open, church by phone or video, etc. If stopped by police and no grocery, pharmacy, paper or cleaning supply pickup being fined $1,000 and quarantined.

It's take 2 to 3 days for people who want to be tested to get an appointment, same length of time to get test and (5) days to get results😢

Staying in for about 2 weeks at a time, and then I make an essential emergency run, while protected  by mask & gloves.

Glad to see one of your posts and know you're okay.   We are continuing to stay in except for once a week grocery trek complete with gloves.    Washed all our clothes and shoes after last week's and sanitized groceries.   Watched that online video about that and then sanitized some more.

@HokiePoq

Hey Hokie thanks for checking on me ♡

I've wanted reply but afraid I'll be a "debby downer "

Anyway

I'm doing okay

Earlier in week I needed few things from grocery store... asked kids for thoughts about going they felt best me not go so my DIL went got stuff for me and put on my porch

Was strange although I'm grateful got see & chat with my granddaughter through glass.... kids don't wanna risk spreading something to me so I've only seen at distance since bday party over 2 weeks ago....I miss hugs

I had another errand had do Friday wore gloves to touch debit machine & doors and such

I'd read your post about what y'all done after trip to grocery store & that you cleaned groceries??? I've not done that nor understand?? Certainly don't wish spray/ treat my loaf of bread.... can you explain?

I tried find videos you mentioned about cleaning couldn't find 😞  are they on AARP? plus I've read things online

Like using paper towels to dry hands not towels and cleaning used/touched areas....its all been bit freaky and upsetting but came to conclusion those things weren't necessary for me since me and my pets only ones been in my home over month ago .... at least that's my thinking I've always washed my hands alot and go through many cloth hand towels

I took my clothes wore Friday off & washed my loads yesterday but don't really understand about treating shoes I sprayed Lysol spray on them....1 DIL said using lots Lysol and actually needs some & none can be found well I keep cans in every room always have so I have overstock buy at Sam's told she can come get .... maybe I'm wrong if so correct me but I'm just doing things as usually do when I'm at home...I assume maybe the difference if living with someone???

At times the fears are overwhelming that I &/or loved ones not making through this....with predictions of 81% USA getting sick... I'm high risk between my health issues and my life choices (smoking & Coca-cola).... its in God's hands "Que Sera,Sera" Whatever will be, will be (have had Alexa play this for me by Doris Day)

Our governor did "Stay at home"order Friday for at least 30 days.... so all hair salons have to close have My usual (20+years) 6 week appointment of color and highlights April 1st so reckon I'll just be going grey for my 62nd birthday... way mine grows if goes on for months guess I'll make a change to shorter grey hair then go pink which works better on grey or blonde although lots times I've had pink highlights on my brown hair.... it'll be groovy having better noticed pink hair

I've noticed bit less traffic, expect see lots less come Monday order takes affect

My sons are still working & my DIL told me he comes home takes off clothes and takes shower... they've been working on control systems in hospitals .... their blessed still have job Lots thoughts about folks (medical, retail, restaurants take out & etc.) putting lives on line to help others ....its sad to read stories about losses of those brave souls.

I was in retail management for most of my life.... to think of these circumstances to work in.Wow.... Walmart and others doing best to be there and protect employees at same time..... I'm due to have pickup my Blood pressure meds Tuesday guess I'll witness the changes read about & just share my gratitude & thanks to workers when I go

Well enough rambling on I've written a book

Again thanks for asking

& glad y'all doing okay

& glad your doing okay Marylin @mi4090

Just doing best take one day at time and not get overwhelmed with info and grateful for old TV shows escape with in evenings

Take care everyone Be safe and blessed Hopefully things will improve soon

Hello Ginger,

I'm doing the same thing as @HokiePoq with produce, sanitizing the outside of all packaging on meats, canned foods, bread, etc.  This took a long time, cause I shopped for a month.  I refilled my meds for (3) months, to limit my time around others in grocery stores not practicing social distanting😢

Glad you got your delivery, you're well, and you completed your grocery run😉. I miss being able to visit with my family too, for my safety.  We talk just about everyday, and I'm talking to relatives all over the country due to Stay Home order.

I too Thank all  medical, pharmaceutical, transportation, first responders and retailers, etc🏆🏆

Keep in contact, hope family is well.

Glad to know you're okay!

The videos I've seen were on Facebook but I imagine they are also elsewhere.

What I did with the loaf of bread was wipe down the outside with a clorox wipe.   II did that with most things we bought last time.   I soaked the oranges in a diluted clorox solution.   My mother did this with all produce when I was a girl.....guess she was ahead of her time.

I think it must be much more difficult doing all this alone.  I think people consider the family/persons who live with them as already in contact, so no extra precautions unless someone would get sick.    You're not Debby Downer.   Feel free to commisserate with the rest of us anytime.

Glad to know you and family are well and completed your weekly grocery run.  I did a monthly grocery run and also had a bag of gloves, sanitizer and face mask.  Had to go to (4) different grocery stores to get everything, and all were very crowded.

I washed clothes, shoes and sanitized all groceries.  I don't plan on going back out for weeks.  Exercising and getting my 10,000 plus steps per day to keep busy.  Stay safe😇

Hello Rewards Warriors,

ALERT!!

My granddaughter is a Medical Assistant in the largest medical group in my state and they have no face mask or hand sanitatizers.  Their clinic has to ask all patients if they've traveled out of the country, do you have fever, chest pains and shortness of breath.

No disrespect intended but Monday she told me an Asian woman came in coughing, sneezing and sweating, she answered NO to all of questions above and was placed in an exam room where she was asked the same questions again by a nurse.  At this point, she stated that she had just returned from China and had all the symptons of COVID-19.  The office immediately called the health department and CDC, health department came and gave her the test to be sent to Nashville for testing and the results would be back on Thursday.

The medical staff was supposed to be tested themselves on Wednesday, and upon my granddaughter & other staff arriving to work their temperature was taken and told if you have no symptons there's no need for test.  I've seen on the news that it can take up to (5) days for symptons of Corona virus to appear.  She has two year old twins (my greatgrands) and I'm praying that they will be OK.  She told me Friday that the clinic got the lady's results and it was NegativeSmiley Happy

I think that all medical personnel should have protection and be tested first before being allowed to encounter patients.  What do you think?

Also, there are many reports on Facebook from medical staff here that large numbers of people are caughting Corona virus from touching gas pumps and advising all friends and family to use paper towels, tissues or gloves to pump your gas and dispose of the item before re-entering your vehicle.

@mi4090 Is this your granddaughter, a medical professional in TN?

Or is this something from FB or an email?

If your granddaughter I know this is a terrible worry.   Our daughter in law is a doctor and I worry for her and their family by extension.   Prayers for all our medical professionals and first responders.

Just saw a report on the news of a 90 year old lady in WA state who has recovered!  She'd been in that nursing home for rehab after a stroke and caught the virus.   Remarkable recovery from both the stroke (when the family first thought they'd lose her) and the virus!   Strong lady who can give everyone hope.
