Utility Company wants us to pay for their pipeline insurance

We have lived in our home over 40 years, and now our gas company wants us to buy insurance on their pipeline to our house. I don't feel we have the 'insurable interest' but can we be forced to pay for their pipes if one breaks?

I'm not sure about your situation but will tell you my experience:

Unfortunately the current commercials re home warranties are true; our water utility did some work on our street then 2-3 months later every drain in our home stopped working.

The utility "investigated" and found the issue was between the main line and on our property. IT COST US THOUSANDS to get repaired.

I hate to think what it would cost if a GAS pipeline failed. Please contact your Gas Utility directly, if not already, verify not a scam, then protect yourself against future catastrophe?

Be Careful - what you have described is a tactic used by scammers to get your money and your personal information,

Contact your utility company, your local government, including law enforcement and tell them what is going on.

Whatever you do - DO NOT ACKNOWLEDGE OR CONTACT THE SHISTERS.

Now if it is your water line - you decide but the insurance is usually added onto your bill and it is only a small amount monthly.
