SSI

I applied for SSI 3 months after I turned 65. Do I get retroactive SSI payments going back to 8/1 when I applied 11/1?

In your case, SSI aged, probably NOT since SSI has no waiting period and the start date is tied to your application date.

If you have already been approved, then there is no extended period for benefits to be approved.

Back pay is more applicable if the SSI benefit is for a disability rather than age, because it may take longer, sometimes a lot longer to get the disability review approved.  Whereas, age is pretty easy to prove.

SSI is Supplemental Security Income, a welfare program for those who are aged, sick, disabled or blind of any age who have not earned enough to qualify for Social Security Disability (SSDI)  - It is not Social Security - SSDI.

So is that what you are talking about, if not what?

SSOASI - Social Security Old Age, Survivors Insurance - this is SS Retirement

SSDI - Social Security Disability Insurance
