Remembering Pearl Harbor

Hi all,

In honor of Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, I thought I'd post this story (below) from USA Today that shares stories from members of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association. It's been 69 years, but their memories seem as strong and vivid as if it were yesterday.

I am a recent AARP member and as an Army Retiree am looking back through all the Veteran related posts and found this one. I can't see the picture referenced as it was posted 8 years ago but am assuming it is the one discussed in this article, this is in no means meant to diminish the brave women as their contributions throughout history have been immeasureable ... from rosie the riviters, to pilots, nurses, and apparently even firefighters. I salute all veterans and especially the men and women I was honored to serve beside for 20 years !!

In Response to RE: Remembering Pearl Harbor by llipman

That photo is magnificent -- I've never seen anything like it. It almost looks as if it were taken in a more recent re-enactment, because everything and everyone are so perfectly in place. I would love to know the story of these women!

In Response to Remembering Pearl Harbor by Amy

When we think of Pearl Harbor, many of us think of the men who were killed there that day.  I've seen hundreds of photos from the Pearl Harbor attack, but I've never seen the one on today's AARP Bulletin homepage www.aarp.org/bulletin/ in the They Made History feature showing female firefighters battling the blazes.  This picture ought to be the basis of a monument to female firefighters everywhere.  Notice the diversity in these women from 1941.
