6 comments (8/19/23) I do not watch the NEWS and didnot know about Hurricane Hilary until Cadee @Cadee2719 (a member of the Grief & Loss AARP FORUM) just posted.

Hilary is now a Category 1 storm churning maximum winds of 85 miles per hour as it barrels north-northwest at a speed of around 20 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center. It was about 385 miles south from San Diego as of 2 a.m. local time Sunday.

The hurricane is expected to weaken to a tropical storm before it reaches the US โ€“ but itโ€™ll still likely pack a powerful punch in the Southwest, with โ€œcatastrophic and life-threateningโ€ flooding expected, according to the hurricane center.

The storm is forecast to dump 3 to 6 inches of rain โ€“ or even 10 inches in some areas โ€“ and whip up damaging winds that can knock power out for many. The worst of it is expected Sunday into Monday.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom proclaimed a state of emergency Saturday for a large swath of Southern California to support hurricane response and recovery efforts, according to the governorโ€™s office.

โ€œWeโ€™re mobilizing all of government as we prepare and respond to this unprecedented storm,โ€ Newsom said.

(1 comment) Dear @wilful and loved ones, I hope it passes your way without any damage. I know with Hurricanes Ian and Nicole "last year" in Florida, alot of "last minute" predictions.  Nicole ๐Ÿ™

Hurricane Hilary was downgraded by the time it hit SoCal.  We got 2.25 inches of rain on Sunday. - And we needed it, so here where we are - it was just fine.  Other areas had flooding.   Thanks for your concerns.

Weather Warnings that have never been issued for this part of California, weeks on end of 100+ degree days for the Southwest, warmer oceans, ice melting in Greenland, the Arctic Ocean being completely melted, glaciers calving like never before, and the Antarctic Ice Shelf breaking to pieces..... It is only a matter of time that parts of FLORIDA and CALIFORNIA are permanently underwater due to climate change.
