AARP Fights Nationwide to Protect Older Adults from Utility Rate Hikes.
From Montana to New Jersey, AARP has championed legislation to keep energy bills affordable and accessible.

As artificial intelligence accelerates the demand for power in the U.S., data centers are expanding to help meet the growing need, but AARP advocates are concerned that the costs of building and maintaining the centers may be unfairly passed on to residential customers. โ
โFor many, especially older adults on fixed incomes, higher utility bills could mean making difficult choices between paying for electricity and affording essentials like medications, food or rent. Thatโs why AARP is pressing lawmakers around the country to protect consumers from electricity rate hikes.

One of the concerns I saw in Google News for my area in regards to Data Centers is WATER USAGE.
I am grateful my furnace uses gas which the apartment complex pays.
Grateful that I get the air conditioning from my neighbors through my walls and ceiling. No one below me. I am comfortable in my cute Studio Apt in the hills of Virginia WITHOUT having to turn on my air.
Another concern that has been rampant is the LOSS OF GREEN SPACE to these Data Centers.
Google has a presence here of late & so has Amazon.
Soon my area will become the Commercial Zone = goodbye farming. ๐
