Balance Fitness combines safe and effective modern fitness exercises with the ancient flowing movements of qigong (chi gong). Research shows that these practices can improve balance, strength and energy while helping to prevent falls and reduce common health concerns.
By combining the calming and centering effects of qigong with the invigorating benefits of modern fitness exercises, Balance Fitness offers a balanced approach to aging gracefully.

All levels are welcome in this low-impact chair exercise class led by AARP volunteer Milly who focuses primarily on moves that enhance balance, mobility and on strength training. The exercises are tailored to be easy on the joints while still providing a full-body workout, ensuring that everyone can engage safely and effectively. No experience is necessary, and you will have a great time!
Make sure to wear sneakers and stretchy, comfy clothing so you can move easily. Youโ€™ll also need a sturdy armchair.

EVENT NAME - Join Our Gentle Adaptive Yoga Class to Gain Flexibility, Mobility and Strength!

Designed for people of varied abilities, this virtual adaptive yoga class is unique in that it takes vinyasa-inspired sequences and adapts them to a hybrid seated and standing chair-assisted movement practice. Ground poses are offered for those who can get on the floor, with modifications and chair-based alternatives for those who cannot. We use hand weights in a few poses, and mindfulness, meditation and breathing (pranayama) are integral to the practice.
This workout can help you gradually become stronger and more flexible, balanced and mobile. Props you may want to have handy: a chair without arms, 4โ€œ x 6โ€œ x 9โ€œ-inch yoga blocks or a rolled towel or blanket, an 8โ€™ or 10โ€™ yoga strap with a D-buckle, a Theraband and hand weights.โ€ฏ Please consult your physician before beginning any new exercise regimen.
Instructor Barbara Deurwaarder is a 500 RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher), meaning she has 500 hours of training as a teacher.

Lots of people have tried the electric slide, but thereโ€™s so much more to discover! This exercise class will cover basic country line dancing steps, from the shuffle to the Charleston to the grapevine. These steps not only enhance coordination and rhythm but also provide an enjoyable way to exercise and socialize. Find out how much fun it can be to dance.
Participants of all experience levels and abilities are welcome. If you are new to line dancing, please arrive 15 minutes early. Our instructor will review some of the basic steps each week before class.

The popular Zumba workout, which puts a mix of high- and lower-intensity dance moves to Latin and World beats, has been modified in Zumba Gold classes to provide a less intensive, more joint-friendly dance workout for older adults - without sacrificing any of the fun. This class, part of a series taught by Charlotte, N.C., fitness instructor Elizabeth Moakler, will get you moving to the Zumba rhythms and explore the connection between dance and a healthy brain.

This one-hour, low-impact workout session combines dance principles and yoga methods designed to enhance mobility and flexibility. The workout begins seated in a chair and gradually progresses to standing for those who can do so. The instructor moderates all body types and movement abilities.

EVENT NAME - Tai Chi with Mitch for All Fitness Levels with Focus on Relaxation and Strength!

The ancient Chinese martial art of tai chi involves a slow, meditative series of movements designed to open the body, improve oxygen intake and help the body restore itself.
The classes will teach eight forms of tai chi, incorporating diaphragmatic breathing into a series of 108 movements. Midway through each workout, weโ€™ll pause for a three-minute guided relaxation to rest and benefit from having opened the bodyโ€™s vascular and energetic systems.
Research has suggested that the health benefits of tai chi may include improved muscle strength, flexibility and balance and an easing of joint pain and stress. Please consult your physician before beginning any new exercise regimen.
Classes are taught by American Council on Exercise (ACE) group fitness instructor Mitchell Menik, who is also an ACE senior fitness specialist, an ACE orthopedic exercise specialist, and an American tai chi and Qigong Association certified master instructor.

EVENT NAME - A Virtual Class in Gentle Chair Yoga and Guided Breathing!

Healthy living requires attention, motivation and action! Get started with our 60-minute gentle chair yoga classes led by Anne Esguerra of Sea Change Yoga.
This virtual session will use gentle seated yoga movements and guided breathing to bring awareness to the body, soothe a stressed mind and nervous system and help reduce anxiety, promote respiratory health and allow us to find our way back to ourselves. We will also share resources to help you make changes on your healthy living journey.
Anne will lead the class from a chair and provide modifications for those who choose to practice on a mat. Beginner yogis are welcome! Please consult your physician before beginning any new exercise regimen.

Suited for all fitness and experience levels, our seated exercise class focuses on flexibility and relaxation.
