When my daughter turned 13 (the beginning of her teens), she and I took a trip to the west.  We volunteered at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary for a few days, then went on to the Grand Canyon and white water rafting.  We were gone for about a week and had a blast, just the 2 of us.

I was fortunate to travel first as couples with my husband and Mom and Dad. We took a wonderful trip to England & Ireland a few years back. Then after my Dad passed away, my Mom & I along with several friends and various female family members took some memorable girls trips the last few years. Now my Mom is also facing the confusion that comes with dementia and I feel like I've lost a great buddy and traveling partner. She still remembers our trips to some extent but can no longer participate. I'll miss our adventures together.

Would love to hear what airlines, restaurants, hotel, places to see, and any other suggestions you may have for our trip. Thank you in advance. Barbara (Tezky) Scott

I have been fortunate!  My daughter and I have taken the opportunity to have many trips together.  She owned a store in Orlando and would go to market in San Francisco and we always took at least one more day and sometimes a few days to do something.  We did a Caravan Tour through Canada that was fabulous and a year ago we did our dream trip.  We had planned for about 10 years to take a Viking River Cruise that included Germany.  We went for 2 1/2 weeks flying into Budapest a few days early and then cruise from there to Amsterdam.  It was great and we have lots of memories of beautiful places and fun things.

Yes, my Mom and I took several trips together before she was stricken with dementia.  I love to travel and she was my traveling partner.  Even though she's still here physically, mentally she's not.  I feel as if I've lost my best friend.

Mother-Daughter vacation

The only one we have had a chance to take was 3 years ago shortly after my husband - her father passed away. I live in NC and she lives in OH so we don't have very many opportunities to go anywhere together. She took me to VA to visit my sister. My sister has Alzheimers. That was a gift to me to be able to visit with her. Then my daughter took me to VA beach. We had a great time together. I only wish we could do this more often. Thanks for letting me write about this.

My daughter and I met in Omaha for an art retreat weekend a few years ago.  We had a blast!  We have had plans to do again, but our  work schedules have been hectic so the times we've tried to plan have not worked out. But now I'm retired so I can adapt easier to her schedule and it's on the top of the bucket list.
