Are you planning to travel this year?
AARP Research’s annual travel trends survey reflects the stark reality of COVID-19’s impact on older adults’ 2020 travel plans, but many boomers will travel in 2021. Are you planning to travel this year?

Last year, my wife and I drove from Utah to Lake Tahoe for a week, as we had made reservations 13 months before that in June 2019 for a condo, which is pretty much required to get in at that property. We used extra precautions at stops for gas to and from Lake Tahoe and at Lake Tahoe. All but one of our meals during our week there consisted of groceries cooked and prepared in our unit. The one meal we ordered out, in person, was some Subway sandwiches we took back to the unit to eat. We did not go to casinos, buffets, or even sit-down restaurants, which we would have done before the coronavirus attack.
This year, we couldn't think of anyplace we'd like to go for a road trip with continued ups and downs with travel restrictions. Flying anywhere seems even more iffy. Unless we change our minds in the next month or so, we'll stay home this year.
Stay well and enjoy!

We are traveling this year but will NOT be using AARP's expedia to book any of our travel. This past week I booked and received confirmation of a rental car through Expedia, only then to arrive prepared to travel at the Rental car counter to be told they had no cars available. Despite my reservation confirmation I now had no way to get to my destination, and calls to the Expedia phone number resulted only in being on hold for over an hour. I would be very careful to about using this service (I will not again) simply because if something goes wrong you have no help or recourse.

In March, New York State lifted testing and quarantine requirements for those fully vaccinated. So I visited Manhattan for six days. Fantastic, as usual. Stayed in an AirBnB in Midtown East. The Met and MoMA are open with reservations, easy to get. The High Line and many Chelsea art galleries are open, thrilled to see you. Many stores and restaurants open. Other attractions, like the Ukrainian Museum, closed temporarily. Nevertheless, go now! I ❤️ NY

We rebooked trips to the UK and Switzerland that were booked for last year. May have to, again, put them off. We're just waiting to the last minute to cancel if the international travel restrictions are not lifted.

Of course, however some plans had to be changed due to international restrictions and moved to 2022. This year (so far) includes trips to Alaska (fly), Tennessee, South Carolina (drive) and intrastate travel (Florida) with our RV.
