Cold outside air causes neck and shoulder blade area to tighten up

At 76 I'm sure there's some wear and tear on my neck, shoulder and shoulder blade area but when I walk outside in cooler air (like below 50° f ) that area tightens up to the point of a deep ache.... I don't get this when exercising in the house .

Is that a fairly common result of muscles being exposed to cool air --- I'm wearing a coat. today I took delivery of a little battery operated neck heater and it seemed a little better when I had that on while walking.

I have a similar problem when feeling cool air on my neck.  I just switch to wearing turtleneck or mock turtleneck shirts.  I've modified many of my old turtlenecks that were too high by permanently turning down the neck (it also provides an extra layer of protection).  I also find that by layering a turtleneck under other shirts of different weights I can maintain a cooler temperature in my home.

Sounds good, I'll try something similar and keep using my battery heater 😃
