If you're still looking to change, you click the little magnifying glass in the box that has the word 'search' in it. You are then prompted for changing search settings. Click that, and Firefox hows you all the available search engines. Click the one you want, and you're done.

Near as I can remember the above should work with all versions of Windows except for perhaps Windows 8, and if you still use that version upgrade it now to 8.1 or 10.

O vaguely recall a gotcha on Windows 8 , where you will cease getting updates soon . Security updates, patches, etc.

Can't recall - also if running Windows 8 and chrome://settings still doesn't work you need to select run as Windows8 but, maybe someone can do a search for both of the above.

I'm kinda busy freezing on a mountain top with a blasted iPhone. Are I cycles forming a sign of anything on a slight beard.😈

Beyond that you are running Chrome on Windows not chrome on a chrome, Apple or android operating system - right.

If it still doesn't work there's something you're not saying.
And malware becomes a possibility how old is the daughter gremlin.

What browser do you use?
Different steps for each.

Internet explorer 11, Edge, Chrome, Firefox, Opera and the list goes on.

Okay, if it doesn't work one way then we do it another.

In the address bar type in chrome://settings

Under settings heading go to On Startup open a specific set of pages.

Click on Set Pages

Delete ask.com

add http://www.google.com (add the address for it, I'm on iphone at the moment and can't remember everything).Click OK

And just for giggles after you're back on settings page.

Go to Search its after Appearance, under  settings in right column.

Set Google as your "Search engine.

Click OK.

Now, you should be golden.

Beyond that it becomes google chrome under Android or Ios operating system or possibly malware. My best guess is you updated Java or Flash and someone didn't read the fine print before installing the version. Some updates to software get *Surprise installations of Ask.com*

Clicking on those 3 lines brings up such items as New window',' Options' etc., a variety of items , no 'Settings'.Think I need to do a lot of work here. Grand daughter was here, & playing games, so....

Therein, could be she was the 'gremlin' .   Woman Happy

I'll assume you use Google Chrome for a browser.

Look in the upper right corner, you should see a hamburger like icon three horizontal lines.

Click on that scroll down to Settings

Select on Startup choose a specific set of pages to open, click on select pages

You should see - ask.com , highlight it, then in the far right click the X (delete)

Beyond that your question still has me asking - huh!

To set Google as search page - return to settings and select as search engine.

If google mail, enter it as your home page.

The following image is for Windows 10, Edge.

AARPEdgeHP.JPG

For IE choose Tool>Internet Options>General Tab and under Home Page delete what you do not want in the box and then add the address you do want to use, click on Apply and OK.

If these are not your browser then you will need to tell us what you are using as Frozenoem stated.

You downloaded something and didn't read the fine print, did you update flash, Java, ccleaner, or even antivirus programs, etc. - the list can go on and on and on.

What's your browser - Internet Explorer 11, Edge, Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Safari, etc ?
