Proof of concept means just that, it could happen, and if it did you could lose access to your files, photos, etc.

 

Really a lot to be said for nice tough 30 character gobbledegook network passwords vs generic let my router Assign a generic password (that can be found on internet).

 

Article also offers useful hints like updating firmware if real attack were to happen.
