On Voice Cloning and Other AI Scams...

Voice cloning uses AI to replicate someone else's voice. Scammers may pose as relatives or friends over the phone, fabricating a story about an emergency and asking their victim to send money immediately.

60 Minutes did a report on this, with a Demonstration.  Add another item to the ToDo List:

...No wonder antidepressants are the 4th most commonly prescribed drug in the U.S..

Oh, I am in complete agreement with you there.  I once got to an aide to a US Senator about internet security (or the lack thereof).  He told me that almost no Congressmen even use the internet.  And he said the best advice for me was to stay off the internet.

I would have said, "but you are the folks who are charged with keeping us safe.."  ---- but I clearly saw no point with that individual.

I know some people on the inside of the computer industry.  And I know directly that every single last bit of this can be stopped...entirely.  But the responsible companies simply do not want to spend the extra nickel to get that done.

And they are literally letting millions of people be constantly harassed by 12 year olds, 15 year olds..and then into the actual professional con men criminals.

And every single last bit of it could be stopped.

Back in the 1960s, my mother once received an obscene phone call.  She reported it to the police.  Within a week, that guy was in jail.

We can do the same thing with these kinds of folks now.  The powers that be simply don't want to spend that extra nickel to get it done.

And by extra nickel...I mean it isn't even really expensive to do it.

That is how little they care about the public.

It's a shame.  An utter shame.

You know, somewhere, some 85 year old retired grandmother is going to get harassed with porn or some other abuse.  And this society doesn't even have the decency to make sure that doesn't happen.
