Meal delivery for other who lives alone

Good morning, friends. Have you had experience with helping a parent with meal delivery ingredients? My mother loves to cook but has lost interest since my dad died and feels shopping and cooking for one person is just not worth the effort. She is buying takeout more and more. SHe would benefit from having meal ingredients or something healthy delivered to her door 1-2 times a week but the companies that offer this that I have found really don't cater much to cooking ro delivering pre packaged chopped ingredients for one person. What have you found that works for a parent who still wants to prepare her own food just needs a boost ?

I came back to give you a heads up on this service that the grocery store chain that I use - Publix - is now doing.

If this chain is convenient to her or perhaps another with a like service, it could be an answer for you.  Just an email away.

Sure some of the meals are more than (1) person but perhaps meal sharing could also give her some added benefits of socialisation - share a meal; share a joy.

Came back to add -

What about a day a week when a Mother and daughter got together and prepared specific meal things for the week ahead?

If your Mom wants to do some cooking but doesn't want to buy, keep, store and prepare a meal daily, she may like the Apron Meals which many Publix grocery stores prepare and carry.  They also deliver.  (IF SHE HAS THIS CHAIN AVAILABLE IN HER AREA).

They vary by store and by date - I think they try to carry those that are most popular often.

Some are available with the complete meal - meat and veg.  Others are just by the meat and then you can add veg or salad.

Don't think you will find this type of meals available for just (1) - minimum is (2).

Tell her to invite a friend.

Here are some examples from this weeks flyer -

I some times need that boost. What I do is buy some easy to microwave stuff. I like the offerings of a store near my house, so I get frozen brown rice, polenta, the occasional pizza, veggies that cook in a bag, they carry a lot of Indian cuisine items, I store a few of them. Then I may buy some fresh seafood and serve it with the prepackaged rice (it takes 3 min in the microwave and serves 2). This way it is almost-home-made cooking. Just mind the salt content. Some stores have a list of low sodium offerings (mine does!).
