As a service, our financial institution provides, free of charge, our FICO score on a monthly basis.
This month, my wife's score was lowered albeit by only one point. But the reason given is what concerns me.
They lowered her score because....... wait for it......wait for it......wait for it
SHE DIDN'T SPEND ENOUGH MONEY!!!!!!
That's right, folks.
To me, that's counterintuitive.
Can anybody explain why your FICO score should go down when you are careful with your money and save, save, save rather than spend, spend, spend????
They don't make money unless you spend.
Tell you what else is done. They take all your cards credit limit and add them together. If you aren't spending a certain %% your score can go down.
I had mine go down one year that we took 2 vacations close to each other so my spending was high for that period of time. The kicker is, a few months later it went down because I wasn't spending enough.
But this is the one that makes me laugh. Two Visa cards has my score about and sometimes the same. I have a MC that rates me 25pts. less than the 2 Visa cards, but it gave me the higher limit.
I shake my head so much in how things are figured in this day and age that it's a wonder it doesn't fall off.
