AARP Eye Center
One of the most treasured benefits I received from AARP was the discount on glasses at Walmart's Vision Center. I was extremely disappointed on my recent order of two pair of glasses at the Vision Center that they no longer accept the AARP discount. My prescription is such that my glasses generally run $400/pair or more, so that 30% discount was quite a savings. While I did not get the savings this time, I will be looking for another facility that recognises the AARP discount.
Thank you for your support throughout the years @jrfetrow. I'm so sorry to hear you were not able to get a discount at the Walmart vision Center. AARP Members and their families receive exclusive discounts on eye exams and eyeglasses (frames and lenses) at participating retailers and independent provider locations nationwide and online. Your AARP membership card is required for in-store purchases. You save 50% on prescription lenses with the purchase of a frame at LensCrafters, 30% on complete pair of glasses (frames and lenses) at Glasses.com, and you save an additional $10 on a complete pair at Target Optical. I am not surprised. I expect more places to do away with the AARP discount. The reason - they opened up AARP membership to people as young as 18. That added millions of people who can now take advantage of the discounts. Most companies can't afford it. So the discounts will be lowered or disappear.
@PaulaC261681 While AARP's mission is dedicated to the needs of the 50+ population, anyone aged 18 or older can become an AARP member. Members 18 and up enjoy all the benefits of an AARP membership that are not restricted by law or contract, like age-restricted insurance products. Tend to agree - what does an 18 year old or even a 50 year old have in common with the AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF RETIRED PERSONS?
Maybe the name of the org needs to be changed to the AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF REGULAR PEOPLE - wouldnโt even have to change the valuable logo for which so much in royalties are paid.
Maybe we should make a list of some NEW membership benefits that need to be offered for these new members.
LOL - world just keeps getting weirder and weirder . . . . . glad I have stopped joining groups just for โbenefitsโ.
