AARP Eye Center
I was appalled when I got our Hartford renewal this year and saw that there was a ridiculously high increase in the premiums. (No tickets, etc. 2 autos - 2014 and 2002 models.) I finally decided to sell my car that I barely ever drove, to get the premiums down. What they did was increase the insurance on my husband's car by a huge amount, saying that there "would be two people driving it now". I'd always been a second driver on that car, so nothing had changed. When Hartford was called, what we got was "sorry that's the way it is." So, sorry Hartford, we found a much better deal at State Farm, who also insures our home.
I couldn't believe that a company connected AARP did this. The premium increased every year, of course, but this year it was just too much. So disappointed in AARP/Hartford.
I see lots of Hartford comments here so I will just reply to this one with my dissatisfaction:
I went online to fill out a quote for auto/home since AAA has went up 20% for each from last year.
When I got finished with the Home quote, I was denied coverage because I do not have an active monitored Fire/Burglar service!! I called an they said if the home is over a certain size, they require the service.
Why is AARP even associated with a company like this? They should be fighting for seniors to be able to save $$. Very disappointed with AARP. They need to find another Insurance partner.

I just posted a bad experience that I had looking for auto and homeowners quotes from Hartford. See above. They should not be endorsed by AARP. I received a quote from State Farm ($400 more than current) and will be meeting with them to discuss my coverages. I hope that they can pull through for me. I've been calling around, and the insurance quotes are $500 more and upwards from what I have now. I have Meemic insurance for educators and they are discontinuing coverage for educators in Wisconsin. Couldn't make a "go" of it. The insurance industry is so out of control.
There are many reasons for rate increases. Unfortunately, The Hartford as well as other insurance companies, have experienced an influx in the costs to settle claims. This is due to the increase in the cost of materials, claim settlements, labor, an influx in accidents, etc.. We understand the frustration and hope in the near future, rates can be lowered. Thank you for your feedback and I hope you will continue to share.
I can somewhat understand the rate increases, but they are out of control everywhere. Hartford provides very poor customer service. AARP should take another look at endorsing them. I'm sure there are other insurance companies that would treat customers and potential customers much better. I was extremely disappointed when I called to discuss the quotes I received with their online tool. They wouldn't even discuss it.
