AARP Eye Center
As I was reviewing my account, I noticed the option for CA residents that prevents the resale of our account information. Given the overwhelming privacy problems on the internet, I thought this would be a good thing to do. However, it seems that opting for privacy prevents you from accessing ALL AARP benefits. So, why would I be a member?
I am not a lawyer, as they say, but this seems coercive and contrary to the letter and spirit of the CA law. I have forwarded the AARP warning to the CA Attorney General.
I suggest you take a look at this issue--it needs adressing.
@rs6102 Thank you for being a member of AARP! AARP does not sell information. We share your information with affiliated companies for your many member benefit services and discount options available with your membership. If you'd like to stop member benefit providers from mailing, emailing, or otherwise contacting you, just let me know and I can get those membership preferences updated for you.
If you choose to submit a request to delete your data as a resident of CA under the California Consumer Privacy Act, then your membership information would be deleted along with access to your membership benefits. This request can be submitted on our site: https://help.aarp.org/s/ccpa-request-page I hope I was able to clear things up a bit. I'm always here to help, please don't hesitate to reach out!
