AARP travel - NEVER AGAIN !!!!

Very poor experience dealing with AARP Travel.  Sharing this experience so others won’t fall into the same trap !!!!!

I made a rental car reservation thru MEX Car Rental in the AARP website.  The vendor clearly stated “Free Unlimited Mileage” in their ad in the AARP website.  I made the reservation and received the email confirmation stating “Free Unlimited Mileage”.  When I went to pick up the car, the agent informed me that there was a daily 50 miles allowance.  I showed her my confirmation with the free unlimited mileage printed in it and she responded with “I know it’s somewhat misleading but somewhere in the fine print under the terms and conditions section, it mentions the miles allowance”.  So I did not pick up the car since I was going to exceed the mileage allowance.  She agreed to cancel the reservation and put notes on the record for me to request a full refund thru the AARP Travel.  I called them and they refused to give me the credit!
****. So be aware when making any rental car reservations *****
For me……NEVER again will I be making any other travel reservations thru AARP!   Quite sad and very disappointed !!!!

Yeah. We booked a rental through Budget and got the price. Showed up to pick up the SUV, and the agent stated a total amount due that was double the amount on our AARP/Budget reservation. No other agency had cars available as it was graduation weekend, so we had to pay the doubled amount. Worse, Budget said they email the receipt/breakdown and don't print them out. We never received that email and are now fighting to get a copy so that we have the price breakdown to fight the overcharge.

I am sorry to hear about your poor experience as well.  Frankly, I am planning on cancelling my AARP membership since the only one time that I have used it was for this fiasco.  I am better off dealing with those companies directly and not worth the aggravation of dealing with AARP.  They had promised to call me back last week and still have not heard from them.  Not worth it !!!
Hope you get a better solution to your issue than I did with mine.  Best of luck!

Hi, Carlos!

I wanted to let you know you're not alone.

Back in 2012, I booked for Mom and I to attend AARP NOLA Convention (back when they held conventions); hotel didn't receive the booking through AARP/Expedia so paid twice; Mom's lifetime membership and attendance was not in the database...

Everything pretty f'd. Would have cancelled but already paid for lifetime membership.

Except bypassing the UHC front and center booth, Mom found great health care coverage at the back of the hall; less money and greater customer support!

You're so correct!
