AARP Expedia Travel is a ripoff

This is a comment directed towards the AARP Expedia travel benefits. I’ve used it over the last 4 - 5years and like many things the quality of the service has declined rapidly. I booked two separate hotels in Minneapolis. Both of them were poor quality, dirty,  and they seem to house a lot of homeless people, Get money United away in the shelters to support the homeless or appreciate if an AARP travel site that supports a hotel with homeless people let me know that advance because it definitely influences where I’m going to stay with my grandchildren. The first hotel we booked an get money United away in the shelters to support the homeless or appreciate if an AARP travel site that supports a hotel with homeless people let me know that advance because it definitely influences where I’m going to stay with my grandchildren. The first hotel we booked in Minneapolis five guys are out front with a 30 rack of Busch light drinking and smoking cursing as you walk to the hotel. The second hotel had Rooms where the max might be 2 to 4 people and  7 to 10 friends showed up and had a party I won’t be using AARP Expedia ever again. I also found out that you were charged $50-$75 over the hotel rate when you booked through them.

I booked a car rental through AARP this past summer where it said you got 30% off through Avis. What a ripoff.  I booked the car and it was non-refundable.  For some reason, a couple days later, I went directly to the Avis website and put in the same information. Guess what!  The total amount was the same!  Going through AARP gave me no discount at all.  Never again.

@krame53   I'm so sorry you had trouble with Avis rental car! Did you enter your membership number with either reservation? Members save up to 35% off base rates when choosing the Pay Now option at reservation or up to 30% off when you choose to Pay Later at the pickup counter. Reservations can be booked online or by phone through Avis. Take care and let me know how I can help!  Jodee R.

I did enter my AARP membership number when I placed the rental through the AARP Expedia site.  And I selected the Pay Now option. When I checked directly through the Avis website, I didn’t enter my AARP number. It gave me the same rate. But it was too late to cancel my original reservation and go to another provider because I had paid for it already. Lesson learned.

Agree 100%. Have been screwed twice in the past two years by AAPR travel. Not beneficial in any way! So much for helping senior citizens. Shame on you AARP

I am traveling now and have the worst experience using alamo car rental I have had in my life. They even forged my initials on the paperwork.  I have tried to contact aarp travel to get help or at least leave a review or notify them of what's going on.  All I get is the automated chat. And that chat is **bleep** worthless!  Along with aarp travel. I am going to cancel my membership as soon as I get home!  Aarp sucks!

I did what you asked with the instructions and there is no private message tab there,
So I called AARP for assistance.  Got someone who is not from the United States and could not understand my issue!  Asked to be transfered to the United States and he said there is no option for that or to get his supervisor!!   So this confirms my opinion jof AARP!  They dont care, just want your money and have 0 customer service!!!!!  I am still fighting with the rental car company to get my over charges back! and they have forged my initals etc...... but AARP does not care, they just want your money for the membership!!!!!   So I tried to send a private message even called for help to figure out if i had missed something.  couldnt get help with that or my car issue!!!  Useless!!!

I again did what you asked.  Went to the chat,  went through everything again.........they asked questions that could have been answered is they just asked my aarp number.   After all of that, repeating myself, and my contact information over....they said they escalated it and it would be 3 days!!!!!!!!!! before i hear anything.. AARP is horrible  I paid for a 5 year membership up front and only been a member for a couple of months......I told them to cancel my membership.   AARP has been more than worthless.   You sell a service with no customer service!!!!!!!!!!  I hope everyone i know and who reads this cancels their membership when they see how little help they actually recieve with their membership!!!!!

I am now adding my scam from AARP Expedia. I pressed purchase and the price was changed. I was charged for double plane tickets, then AARP cancelled the lower priced. If I am assured I am paying one price, then you raise it mid-transaction and charge me $300 more, that's called fraud. I am contacting my state's attorney, writing a BBB claim and making sure everyone knows how you operate.
