Joined AARP 6 weeks ago and started earning points from rewards program easily. On day one I attempted to redeem points for rewards offers. Got the dreaded Cannot process your Request Contacted AARP same day. Given the usual runaround including the 10 day period for AARP to investigate. On day 11 still with no progress I chatted with them again expressing my desire to redeem my points that I was now accruing of course daily. Told me hey were still investigating and to give it 3 more days On now the 14th day I was told the 3 day did not count and I had to wait another 10 days but the last 3 days were part of it. Of course this escalation is going nowhere and I was actually told they had no timeline as to when I would be able to redeem my points. I asked them why I should continue to be a PAID member if I cannot enjoy ALL the benefits of the program. They said there are "many" benefits I could access. I explained how the rewards program is a reason I joined and I expected that I should be able to enjoy this program from day one. It does not seem like AARP has any desire to provide members with this rewards program especially on day one.

What would you do? Continue earning points but not be able to redeem them? Cease the membership and request a refund for monies paid? I filed a complaint with BBB but AARP has not responded to BBB either.

It seems AARP is eager to have paying members but not give them full benefits.

Thanks for your insight.

PS Another thing I could not do was reply to any of these posts--all the replies from anyone were grayed out. I was excited just now to see that I could post again (the tab for posting had disappeared especially when they are running their basketball promos--so now I can post and maybe reply to others.

To all of us at some point I’m wagering. You’ve been strung along too long, in my opinion. I’d contact your state’s Attorney General, which is what I’d do in the situation. Screenshot all of your posts here, and print them out. Document which is what I believe you have been doing, the dates you’ve had contact with them, any names along the way, etc.

Hi @WW393731 They enforce consumer protection laws. They’d be another one to turn to since they regulate online sweepstakes, reward programs, etc… They help prevent deceptive marketing, and unfair trade practices. You can read more I’m sure by looking up your in your state. I just listed a few things here that I searched .
